urgent help required :(:(

my car starts, then spluttters foir about 20 secinds and eventually cuts out. it trys to rev its self a little to keep going like it does when it starts on a very cold morning.

it is a 1.2 16v engine, on a 52 reg car.

when cuts out the electrical fault light shows on the dash board. also, when i now turn the ignition off, to restart it again, there is a clicking noise coming from the front drivers side light.

i have taken the front bumper off and have taken the light off as well and now i can see what looks like a resevoir of some sort. its black and about 20 cms deep. made of metal. has electric wires running to it. it also has a piece of rubber piping that runs from the cap "pump" to the top of the engine, near the cover. and the clicking noise is coming from what looks like a pump at the top of it. this "pump cap" has a water prove asnd what looks like air tight seal on it, however it was lose and off. it is from here that the clicking noise can be heard.

if anyone can tell me what this piece of eqipment is and what the solution to my problem is i would be so grateful !!! :(:(:(

many thanks jamie

thats the carbon canister, vents the fuel tank.
try popping the connection back on, if it wont seal, take the pipe off the other end and put a small rubber hose on that fit, bolt in the other end and jubilee clip so it seals.

cheers for the reply dan,

is that what would be causing the leccy fault as well dan? i notice that when the car judders trying to rev itself to keep it going the lights dim a little.

i cant seem to get the thing to seal, and its just making the clicking sound what ever i do. any ideas what i can do? or is it a renault or garage jobby???

have you been cleaning your engine bay? what happens if you try and stick revs on with the pedal? mine did the same thing... just wouldn't start.. kept trying it and eventually just started normally.. could be a coil...

  Shed.
clean the car. just clean it. give it some love. and itll show you some in return. my car wouldnt start and then i thought id wash it and it was fine.

washing it is what has caused the problem funny enough, i parked it up, washed it, then tried to start it to take my sis somewhere and it just started doing as above :(

josh mate i havent cleaned the engine bay recently, and when i stick some revs on it will sustain it a little bit but then just says that its got a leccy fault and fcuks up again :(
