Usb Headunits

Whats the general opinion of these? I have a USB mini storage device which I can easily use to store songs off my laptop.

The thing is do I need to plug the thing into the headunit everytime I use the car, or is it a download, and the headunit then stores them? :approve: Could be easier than carrying I-Pod with me to plug into headunit

Seen this one for example:

i think its very simular to the ipod just plug in and play the song you want to listern to directly from the usb drive/hard disk

As far as i can tell your mp3's stay on the usb drive and the headunit accesses the songs like it is an external drive, i like the look of the Kenwood units because the USB drive plugs into a USB extension lead that comes out of the back of the HU and can be mounted in the glovebox or somewhere out of the way.

I have one of these - http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/4736.html

Yeah thats cool. The luxury is I can keep I-Pod on me, and then just plug one of these:

in the extension lead out of the way in the glove box or something.
Did your head unit come with the USB extension etc. If not, where do you get them from? :S

My HU does not use flash drives or USB extension leads, it has 1GB of flash memory built into the face plate of the HU for storing mp3's, if you do a search on caraudiosecurity you will find the extensions.

Thats pretty good, may consider a HU like yours then, saves having all the loose wires too!! :)

I've ghe kenwood USB one, it's good but my only compaint is that while track names appear correctly I seperate my albums into diffrerent folders and instead of using the name of the folder the HU just picks them up as Folder 1,2,3 etc.... no complaints other than that though, it's very easy to thread the usb cable down to the ash tray btw.
