USB socket question

Does anyone know where I can buy a serial device to enable use of a USB socket on my HP Pavilion dv8135EA laptop please? It's for hubby not me, as I don't even have a clue what a USB thing is!

I think you might mean a USB to serial converter as the baud rate of RS232 is too slow for most USB devices.
