V+ box and surround sound problems

  Civic Si
On our old ntl box, I just plugged that straight into the tv via a scart lead. The dvd player, which controls the surround sound system, was plugged into the tv with a scart lead and we were able to watch any of the ntl channels in surround sound.
I now have a V+ box(HD) and obviously that is connected to the tv via a HDMI cable but for some reason it will only come out of the tv speakers.
I have looked at all the settings and tried just about everything to get it to come out of the surround sound system but have failed miserably! :(

does anyone have any idea's what i'm doing wrong??

how is the V+ box connected to the surround system dvd player ?

IIRC the V+ box has an optical out, so use that if you can

Yep we use an optical lead which we paid about £25 for and goes straight into the back of the surround amp. The Virgin technician stole our last one though...

it's not connected to it at all. seeing as the the old box didnt have a direct connection to dvd player i assumed that this one wouldnt need it either. I dont think the dvd player has a optical port so looks like it could be upgrade time for the surround sound system.

You should be able to connect it together somehow, our surround system must be 4 years or so old by now, although it was a relatively good Sony setup when we got it.

To be honest though it did rattle both me and my dad for about a day figuring out how to connect the TV, V+ box, surround sound and DVD recorder all together. My Xbox was taken out the equation altogether and demoted to the study TV!
