V6 AND 225

  Renaultsport Clio 172 16v

Had the pleasure of taking both of these out on the same day about an hour each and although i the clio has the looks and that incredable noise i have to say that the 225 was faster! Anyboby else driven both? opnions?

r u sure? you cant turn the ESP totally off, it comes back on after about 25-30 mph so wouldnt make any difference out of first gear really.

Think the 225 would only feel faster because of the turbo, the 255 will be quicker as the 225 is only really as quick of the mark as the 182 and the v6 is quicker.

  Vee dub

Was gonna say it was prob the feel of the turbo that made it seem quicker

I havnt driven either but...

I my opnion a 182 would av no chance against a 225 on a straight, maybe on twistys cos the steerings a bit dull, the v6 had the power top end without a doubt.

Wouldnt expect them to get below 6, thats crazy fast for a volume car, Think the v6 way ave been faster but it delivers the power so smoothly, theres no pinned in your seat moments, that megane seems to want to headbutt the horizon, constantly on a mission!!!!!

  Volvo S60 T5

Driven a couple, yeah they go ok the Meganes but didnt seem as much fun to drive as the clio. V6 will be faster hands down.

Who done the sprint at trax with the megane?
time was over 7 secs 0-60 something like 7.2, I managed 7.84 with my cam timing all fooked up and running a standard map.

I wouldnt say no to a Megane as they are a very nice car:)

The Vee lulls you into a false sense of security! Its very smooth, very quiet and -very- quick. I test drove my (hopefully) future purchase a few weeks back and thought I was ambling along the dual-carriageway at 50-60...looked at the speedo and I was doing 80!!

I deleted it, didnt want to get into another post with me sl*gging off the Megane again, I am sure most here now know of my dislike for them and Diesels by now....lol;)

Simon.

Have fun.

Love the V6 255 btw......:D

^^^ exactly right. I pull away from the last traffic island before work at the same pace as I did in my 172. Trouble is Im doing 100 instead of 80 by the time I back off. It really creeps up on you - doesnt feel fast at all but youre really shifting!

i test drove the V & the RS Megane, and I personally thought that the V was quicker, but felt I could drive the 225 quicker on the road, but... turbos all feel quick due to the physical sensation.

Champagne?

I agree, turbos always feel fast due to the on boost surge you get.

I used to have a modded 5GTT, and that felt awesome when the boost finally came in....:D

Simon.

Love the V6 255

;)

Your exactly right. I turned the traction control off at some traffic lights on my way home tonight. The orange (you are spinning your wheels) light comes on continuously. I slowly pulled away and at exactly 30mph it turned itself back on again.

Saying that I have had wheelspin in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd but only slight because the TC is constantly trying to keep you out of the hedge!

My 225 has now done 2500 miles and feels so much quicker than anything I have driven. I have not driven a V6 but I think most people are right in that the V6 is quicker but they will feel totally different to drive because of the turbo.

Id love to have a V6 but have a small kid and have not got £25K spare :)

I wish Id driven the Megane 225 at Bedford now to see - instead I took the liberty of thrashing a Renault owned Vee round to see how much quicker it was than ours - which of course it was, because I thrashed it more than I thrash ours!!!

as above, looking at figures it clearly isnt quicker, although some cars do "feel" quicker sometimes I guess

and when people say you cant thrash a Vee round the twisties - believe me you can !!! :D

Itll just be the different styles of the car, the v6 is soo smooth you dont realise youre going as fast as you are.

Oh yes! Ill never forget the chase that ensued between the two racing drivers on the Renault V6 test day, resulting in much sideways action, drifting and the Vee in front on two wheels through the esses!

Any doubts I had sabout the Vees handling soon disappeared
