Knocker, I think a good point is that the V6 Clio, either Mk1 or Mk2, looks so much better than an Audi TT

Hi Knocker 1,

To help answer ur question.. I have owned mine a year.. and my only fault has been a light bulb blowing! (and a very sensitive alarm!) Although, we have had a couple of unlucky guys experience gear box probs, I think the prob was 2nd gear wouldnt select, and had their gear boxs replaced on warranty. Another thing to look for, is try and make sure it has a Stainless Steel back box/zorst. As some had mild steel boxes that rust away pretty quickly, I was lucky that mine is stainless steel.. but others have changed them for a K-TEC box that is polished stainless, and sound a bit deeper as well.

Mostly, you need to make sure u get the longest remaining warranty for peace of mind.. a 2002 will give u approx another year left with the Warranty then you can buy an extended warranty from Renault @ approx £550 a year IIRC.

Brake pads arent cheap, although I have plenty of life left on my original set, and covered around 16k miles now (but no track days). Tyres are approx. £300 a pair for the rears.. that will need replacing around every 10k miles..dont know how much the fronts are as not replaced them yet. Youll find you wont use much oil between services, that come around every 12k miles.. I havent needed to top mine up since new! Just a service so far.

My brother had an Audi TT 225, before it appeared on the Top Gear UNCOOL WALL! Shame, as they are very nice cars.. IMO. The interiors are very nice as well.

But the V6 is a real experience to own, I cant explain it to anyone very well.. u just have to own one to realise how good they are! All the guys and girls that own one here, know what I mean! : )

Good luck with finding a minter, u should find one with around 10k miles for £16k without any probs. Thats a lot of car for ! £16k! The sound of the V6 alone will have u grinning!!

Enjoy!

p.s If you have any probs with ANYTHING! Ask us on this forum first! As Renault Service guys know very little about the V6, and wont even be able to tell you what oil you should be using! Ask us first.. there are many experienced owners here that will be happy to help u out! c ya.

i for one had the gearbox problem. from what ive found out via research, the V6 box doesnt respond well to fast changes. admittedly when my 2nd gear went, i did change attempt to change gear extremely quickly, which it didnt like, so with a nice crunch, it wouldnt let me get 2nd gear.

the V6 is a totally different car, if you dont like attention, then dont get one.

my further advice is to check for front bumper damage at the very bottom, as they are quiet low and approaching speed humps too fast can result in a nice crack ( speaking from experience ).

you say in your post that the 02 reg is NOT mint? what is wrong with it?

:D

more help needed what is the best car!!

a 2002 02 15k no445 no tax will need 2 rear tyres shortly 100 miles away with a px of £500.

a 2003 52 20k no483 taxed till dec about 300 milrs away with a px of £1000

both 2 owners .

Its hard to say knocker without actually seeing the cars....................and I wouldnt comment without seeing them....................although I personally would not sell a car that required new tyres and did not have any tax, but that could just be me eh.

One thing that might be worth asking about is.....................if there is someone from the forum who has a V6 and lives close by......................they might offer an opinion.

Ive done this before although not with the V6.......................you can only ask eh;)

What I would say is try and gather as much info as you can about both.................for instance are there any difs in the service history, has one had more warranty work than the other and speak to the dealers who have worked on the cars

As far as distance is concerned I travelled 600+ miles that was only an 81/2 hour drive but it was well worth it..............as Ive said before never let distance stop you if its the rite car:cool:

Sorry for the long story but you did ask eh:D

If it was me, I would wait if your unsure about either (or even travelling that distance away) Its a buyers market, take your time and you will find the right car for you. The only way to know what is the better car, is to see them both in the flesh. You cant just ask what is best by the mileage and year, one owner may not be as careful with kerbed wheels and knocked doors etc. The bottom line is.. You have to see them yourself.

Good luck, and take your time.. there are still many stunning low mileage examples out there waiting for you. (I usually set my limit to around 150 miles to view cars, and have always found exactly what I want, 300 miles sounds a long way to me..as there will be others closer IMO).

stu,

why do you see warranty work as an issue to buying a car? thats exactly what the warranty is for, to sort any problems, it doesnt mean the car is any worse off than another one.
