v6 Mark 1 Misfire

Anybody out there with a v6 ever experienced this. Renault say they can see that a misfire was logged (I cured the problem by turning the car off and then back on) but they dont know what caused it. They were happy to give the car back to me and as far as they are concerned that is the end of it but I am not so sure.

The car has only done 20k miles but has been on several trackdays so it is occasionaly driven hard and has always performed absolutely faultlessley so I am a bit worried (esp. as Renault dont know what caused it). When the problem occured I had been driving fairly fast and was just coming into traffic , I had not been through any water, it was not especially cold etc.

I suspect it could be an electrical problem and I am pretty sure the induction whistle was more like a fluttering noise shortly before the problem occured but I dont really know where to start looking.

The car is slightly modified in that it runs a Pipercross Evolution induction kit and a custom made stainless exhaust but these changes have been on it for some time and as I said above this has only just happened.

If no one has seen this directly does anyone have a recommendation for a dealer that really knows about the v6.

the only misfire on these that i have come across have been caused by one of the ignition coils.a coil fault doesnt always register in the fault memory so the engine needs to be misfiring at the time to find which one it is.

not particually but you need to find which one it is because there is one coil per cylinder.they are pencil type ing coils that sit on top of the spark plug.

v6 max did you get your plate or car from a guy in scotland????

Thanks Jay, Renault were able to tell me that it was cylinder 6 so hopefully there is a clue as to whether counting starts from the left or the right.

oh right coz i was pretty sure a salesman near me had that plate on his silver v6 that he sold last year so just wondered if you had got it?!?!?! It had the v6 racing spoiler on the back end???

i think in your car number 6 is here.

front of car

gearbox 3 2 1

side 6 5 4

anyway bank 2 with coil 6 in it will be the bank at the very back of the vehicle.just swap the end coils with a new one until you find number 6

oh right sorry i just assumed u had it!! yeah the plate exists mate!! If you want i could get you the phone number of the dealership and trace the guy, he dealt with my dad buyin his new car, he wasnt about wen i went to collect the car with my dad shame!!!!
