v6 mk1

Thinking about maybe possibly hopefully going for one but not sure yet...

Pro's and con's anyone?

What to look out for?

What did they do in the mk2 to give it the extra bhp over the mk1?

Can't afford to stretch to the price of an mk2 so what do ppl think of the mk1's?

How much should I be expected to pay for one in good condition with say 20-30k miles?

Servicing costs and how regularly?

Best colour?

How different are they compared to a 172 mk1?

Any info provided, greatfully received. :rasp:

Pro's and con's anyone? Pro - Its an amazingly different car. Con - Everyone will stare at you.

What to look out for? Speed bumps

What did they do in the mk2 to give it the extra bhp over the mk1? Redesigned plenham etc. See Mk2 reviews etc for full details.

Can't afford to stretch to the price of an mk2 so what do ppl think of the mk1's? Different front end, very similar car.

How much should I be expected to pay for one in good condition with say 20-30k miles? About £11k

Servicing costs and how regularly? About £150 - £200

Best colour? Mk 1 would have to be red.

How different are they compared to a 172 mk1? See above.

Short and sweet. :)

Nice one mate, straight to the point... god i'm so tempted.

I'm 22 with 1 years no claims in a good postcode. May ring up my insurance in the next couple of days to get a rough quote.

Anyone else with any point of view on the above Q's?

  M2 Competition
Ive been thinking the same thing mate, wanted to either trade the cup in, or spend money making it a trackday tool for a while.

Have heard the handling on the mk1's is skittish compared to the mk2's.

Also evo mag gave the mk1's a fair bit of stick, but seemed to love the mk2's...

I still would though, only drawback is they all seem to be silver for 11k, lol.

Yea I noticed they were silver. Every car of mine has been silver so dunno whether to stick with silver or go for a change. If I changed I may get problems lol.

For me to insure one its £935.00 f/c. I'm 25 with 4yrs ncd, the quote is protected as well !! (its £100 more than I currently pay)

I've always wanted one after seeing them in mags etc years ago:D then I saw a few in a dealers once.:cool:
If it fits up my drive (between the house's) i'll seriously consider it.

One thing - the turning circle is p*ss poor on them !!! 13m :eek: compared to about 10.5 for a 172 !

I also have a question too - whats the widest point is it the wing mirrors ??? (i have the fig 1830 mm across) is that right ??

Where do you get them serviced ? is the local renault dealer ok:S (mine's the one in Romford,near gallows corner) my dad takes his 172 there & he's never had a problem, I wonder how they would fare with a vee :S

What about the cambelt ?? most mk1's seem to have done about 20k or less, so i guess the age thing would come into play rather than the mileage.
Is it 5 years ?? Also does it cost £1500 to have done ??
Has any one had the cambelt done on a vee ???

Thanks.

wing mirrors are the widest part yep

gearbox on the mk1 isn't the best (then again the mk2 one is a bit poo also)

cambelt = ££££
brakes = ££££
tyres = ££££
petrol = ££££

not the cheapest car in the world to run, and its not the fastest thing on 4 wheels either, but the looks and the noise make it all worth while!!!

Chris, up to last week i had my heard set on one. Insurance was doable and i'm 20. was just shy of 2k with a 11k a yr max milage.

But it's the running costs and the praticality of it and i'd be scared to leave it any where.

Beaut cars...But i've deceided to keep the 172 and by a williams for a bit of fun.

i'm thinking of getting a MK2 for around 17K, insurance for me is £700 but I reckon I can get it even cheaper with the gf on also.

Cheers for answering my questions Fred :cool:
It would be for weekend use really, as I get the train to work, plus I don't really drive afterwork during the week. I probably do about 7k a years tops !!!

Has any one actually had the cambelt done etc ??
(am i best off asking on the v6 forum ?)
