v6 or r26.r

Would have to be the Vee for me. Truely special car. The R26.R is a special car but in reality its nothing you couldn't do to a standard Meg, were as to put a 3.0 V6 engine in the back of a Clio is just plain amazing.

keo i am not getting rid of my vee. I dont think ill be getting rid of it for a long time if anything ill get another just to keep. I nearly got another one the other week but it wasnt the one that i really want i ve had my eye on one now for a while but its not really forsale. thats next on the list. but i think in a year or so ill get the r26r as well well maybe.

  Not a 320d
Either, R26.R would be my choice because its not very old yet, where as the V6 looks dated like all MK2's, and its what 5 years old now, getting on 6, but is still hugely cool.

Mind you, that said, the R26R doesnt have a f**king Radio does it? unless its piss easy to fit and sort out then Id have to go for the V6 on this occasion.

What would you rarther have? For that money, i wouldnt buy either.

V6 is too old, and the R26.R isnt exactly a daily driver is it. Id put my money elsewhere.

I'd be on my way to buy an R26.r and then veer off and go and buy the V6 I had been pining over the night before on pistonheads/autotrader/v6.net etc.

Stop bating ya camel. Just because you don't like them doesn't mean others choose to agree.

Whats amazing about them, i'll summarise:
  1. Very Rare (Limited production, with 360ish units sold to the UK market)
  2. A 2 seater, rear engined clio, a 3l V6 at that
  3. The noise and presence of a supercar for under 30k
  4. A capable road and track car.
  5. A comfortable car, and very easy to drive, more so than the 172/182/192 IMO
  6. A community of like-minded enthusiasts
  7. A evolution of the great 5 Maxi, and trophy racing series
Should i go on....

R26R... The V6 is a pointless car.

I love it so much but until I have a garage full of my ultimate cars in a collection I'll never own one.

Not fast, cost a lot to run, don't handle, no practicality etc etc etc.

At least the R26R goes well and goes round corners well! I'd prefer to live with the buckets and harnesses everyday then be disappointed with the performance of my supercar costing hatch back.

Not fast - Does over 160mph, Cost alot to run - Will avg 30mpg on a long run; 350 to a tank. Doesn't handle...is that speaking from experience? No praticality, no s**t!

If I had pretty much limitless sums of cash, I'd definitely have an R26.R as ONE of my track cars. Obviously it'll be great on the road too, but I wouldn't want one as a daily cruiser.

Actually it's mid-engined ;) x

There is always a lot of hate on here for the V6.

It might just be a Clio. It could be faster. It might have panel gaps that I could sleep in. But I'd still love one.

It's not always hate though is it? That's a personal reaction from those who own/love them. Sometimes a simple statement can be perceived as hate, when in reality it's just an honest comment. They are special, but not everyone has to like them. I don't like the looks, and up-close I think they're poorly finished. Does that make me a hater? Only in the eyes of someone who can't accept rational opinions. That sounded a bit deep...f**k you rararrarrrr etc.

There's a difference between not liking them for valid reasons.

But them being 'slow' and 'handle badly' from people that have never driven them seems strange. It is the top of the Clio range. It should be loved on here.

People on here are sheep, and so because someone whose posts they like says the v6 is s**t, they then think its s**t, and so begins the evil spiral of hate, tow eyes, and silly coloured wing mirrors on daily drives.

Oh yeah that I agree with. I've often crossed keyboards with people on here owing to my comments about the V6, but I don't think I've ever made any comments about how they drive, or how fast they are. Perhaps once when trolling Mike 182. Not sure.

No way can they be slow. BHP/ton blah blah. That accounts for little once the mass is rolling. High speeds require POWARRR!. A 182 couldn't pull a condom out of a Fleshlight, in comparison. I'd actually like to own a V6 some day just for a while, and I never thought I'd say that.

Vee pro's
-Looks brilliant
-Unique
-Sound great
-All of the above mean that when driving normally, it's fantastic
-Love the gearshift
-Big engine behind you
-Grip

Cons
-Not as quick as you'd hope
-Given the pace, the fuel economy is laughable (iirc Riz was getting very low 20's, spending a lot of time on mway) (and the ins group, tyre costs, brake costs etc)
-When the grip runs out, or if you get it off balance (ie a lift when in a corner) it feels lethal. Rwd, short wb, mass at the wrong end. Not friendly in the slightest!

Now the -ve's may fade when you live with the car, as owner's say. But I'm not willing to dump a lump of cash on a car I 'might' get used to and really enjoy. What if I don't? I'm left with an expensive toy, that's a cnut to insure, and does 18mpg if I think about driving in a spirited manner.

Not for me, but I get the appeal.

I'm 25, and if I was to have one as a second car I could insure it for £400 a year. Thats less than the 197 costs, so hardly a pig to insure. As a daily it would be about £100 a year more than the 197, but I wouldnt own one as a daily.

Not baiting, mate, I was simply wanting to know what was amazing...

I'll give you the noise but amazing?! A Carrera GT sounds amazing!

I don't find them amazing in any sense.

Rare - yes, for a reason. Not really amazing.
There are communities for enthusiasts in every form of vehicle these days - not amazing.
Capable road and track - fair enough but the R26 is even more so, so not amazing.
Comfortable - debatable, based on my Clio experience and it not being a comfortable place to be (driving aside). Again, not amazing.
A 3 litre V6 in a small car - should be amazing but really doesn't push the performance limits other than a decent top speed but I reckon they are faster than people give credit for. So, not amazing!

I know you love them but that list does not make me want one when compared with the Megane. It's perfectly acceptable for people to like them but I see nothing amazing about them. Maybe the bravery to make them. Should I continue...?!

The other thing is, I have 5p that says the majority of people commenting on the Vee's handling, have no idea about car control beyond how quickly they can take the Maccies rounder about with their Saxo owning bellend mate following them.

I'm not really sure I'd want either of them as a daily driver..

Both have their pros and cons, but purely from a practicality point of view, I'd have something else.

Well, unless it was for a track toy in which case the R26R all day long.

I'd kind of like to own a Vee for a few months just to say I'd had one though..

  V6 255, 172's, JCW,
I had my 182 down to 16 whilst at Oulton Park several years ago.. On that basis, the v6 isn'y as bad as some would like to believe.

My average mpg is generally around 23 mpg, as I like to get a move on and love to hear it accelerate. I can also get 35+mpg out of it on the motorway. :)
