v8 e46 project

  Cup Packed BG 182
Now that I am about to finish University I can be at home and finally start on a new project, i found a bmw 540i with a 4.4 v8 for next to nothing so I had to get it. The plan is to use it as a donor car for an e46 coupe which hasn't been found yet but on the hunt for any cheap coupe.

Here is the car when i got it back home ...

I have had it a few weeks now and I have come back at the weekends to work on it, the whole interior is out, all the loom has been labeled and is free, I now just need to label and free the engine loom and pull it all out. I will then start organising what i need to keep and i can start neatening and getting it ready for the new car. Ill try and keep this updated as much as possible, very excited to get on with this

Interesting! Look forward to see how this goes.

yer but thats the same book figure as the 4.0 m60 engine and apparently a lot of 540i's run around 280 at the wheel, so like 310-320. It will be put on a dyno

Here is some of the progress stolen from me friends blog, who is helping me...

To get a better picture of what exactly we are trying to free we bit the bullet of no more revving at 200db and started to strip the front down,

While lifting and moving equipment is sorted out for removing the engine and gearbox we decided to crack on with removing the loom. The intention is to salvage all engine running electronics from this car and any required interface between the engine and chassis modules. Without the wiring diagrams yet and with this in mind we feel the best option is to remove the entire loom intact, labelling every connector as we go so that we can the dissect the loom out of the car and re-loom all the stuff that we are going to need. As we are intending to swap over all security related aspects including the central locking system it further substantiates that removing the entire body loom is a worthwhile exercise, as we can keep
all the ECU / Chassis module key coding etc etc

This'll be proper interesting. I bet there's some money in selling the spares from the car you currently have no? All the seats and door cards look well.
