Valve guides

Sending the head off on Monday for a port and polish and some new valve stem seals. The engine runs very well and is on 87k so is it worth doing the guides for an extra £200 (I'm not even sure they need doing) or just get the seals done?

  DON'T SEND ME PM'S!!
Last 2 heads I've taken in to have guides, the machinist has laughed his head off at how bad they were. One of them needed all new valves too as the stems were worn

^they're not as expensive as you think ;) cheaper/similar to most aftermarket suppliers

Ok.. I could'nt get a better deal than 23 euros a piece over here, exhaust ones came around 26. The op is right when looking at his ITB plans and track + all :) I was interested as well in these..

You's of been an idiot not 2 of tbh seen as the heads off, if your going to that extent of valve springs etc you may aswel go for a wilder cam than the Piper's aswel surely with you going ITB's

Works out at £21 per valve.

I'm contemplating some bigger cams, maybe 422 or 423. Does anyone know if they clear the pistons or do they need cutouts?

Yeah. I was just looking at replacing the springs whilst they were out, might avoid a dropped valve in the long run. I've had a couple of springs go in the past

Worth doing guides if there is any wear, but not worth doing in terms of bettering the material as its some sort of colsibro type material to begin with anyway, ie decent quality.

I'm trying to get some, the garage said they might be able to get them from the local Renault garage as they've done that a few times before. The lad working on it is an ex Renault Sport guy, he's worked on the Williams, 1*2 and in Sweden on the V6s.
