Valver 2.0 upgrade

Whats the best way to do this? Add a megane 2.0l bottom end to my existing block or a full Williams engine? Will the Williams engine be more powerful than a valver engine with a megane bottom end? Any idea of price differences?

Go for Willy engine mate, much easier and its a true hybrid:D

Cost will be about the same with the extra labour on the megane route!

Will cost ya about £2k all in.

Happy hunting

Advantage of Megane block is there are more about (supposedly), they are newer cars so you have more chance of finding one with low mileage, etc

The "fastest n/a mk1 on ClioSport" is in fact based on a Megane bottom end.

But its like saying "What phase Williams should I buy" - - buy whatever you can find. Both Willy engine and Megane bottom end are so scarce right now youll do well to source one, let alone have a choice.

OK, so if I was to go for a megane 2.0 bottom end what would I need? Just the full engine from a write off no ecu or anything?

Also will that produce the same torque as the williams engine as thats whats tempting me by this, valver feels very dead till I hit 4.5k rpm.

I have just had a williams engine fitted i was looking at all the options and i could not find a williams engine or a megane bottom end. But hill power done the conversion for me cos i could not find an engine.

The megane bottom end on the 16v head will give you a gain in torque and power but will not give you the amount of what a williams engine will because there is differences internally in the head.

Ideally the management will need to be reprogrammed to run the 2.0L bottom end properly

Yeah you can but i am still running my 2.0L in and the amount of torque it has is great you dont have to wait for the revs to pick up for it to go like on the 16v it just goes from any revs in 5th

Aye-aye m8!

As said the easiest would be the a straight willy engine swap but its going to cost a lot more. The megane route would be best because outside this club no-one really knows you can use the bottom end so they are easier to source (especially considering youre in Aberdeen) and are cheaper. To give you an idea, I managed to find a lump last year at Dyce for £500 or so but ran out of money before i could buy it.

BTW - stripped the rear seats from my valver today....you must do this! Was pulling away from my sisters 172 all the way to a ton coming in from my parents - she wasnt happy! ;)

The only diffs is in the cams and valves....no head diffrences apart form that.

Ben : so if I got some new fast road cams at the same time would I be looking at the same amount of torque as a williams? Thats the main reason im thinking about this, the lack of torque is starting to get to me already.

u33db : Does taking the back seats out actually make that much difference? Didnt think they weighed that much, mabe taking the spare wheel off would also give similar gains?

By changing the cams you move where peak torque sits...so it depends where you want peak torque.

You can easily increase peak torque, but you also move it higher up the rpm scale.

Well its defo noticeable - car seemed to have a bit more go top end. The seats probably dont weigh that much but it all adds up i suppose. Now thinking about getting some buckets up front to shed some more weight as its kinda more performance for free......
