How do I go about getting more power from my valver in this department? Do I need a new ecu, chip or what?! Ive heard of superchipping valvers but is this any good? What gains can I expect? Thanks in advance!
Steve
Best idea is to get your car cumstom mapped from Chipwizards etc. However unless you hve some aftermarket bits ie exhaust intake cam its not worth it for the small gains you'll get.
The thing is the standard maps in the EUC are made by Renault to work with all the 1.8 16V they made they take account of an adverage engine since theres so many tolerances its only a good adverage map .Remapping to add more fuel etc where your individual engine needs it will smmoth out power etc but since its not much different than standard there little gains. If you have say cams induction kit decat exhaust etc then the engine is breatheing more air in and the stock Renault maps aren't talking account of the extra and air and adding power. This is when a remap will be more proven it will allow tell the injectors to inject more power were there is more air aviliable since you've removed the normal restriction.
Personally te best thing to do is get a 2.0 bottome end fitted and then looks remapping. A 2.0 bottom end is about £250 then say a new cambelt, new clutch and fitment say £750 or so all in. The extra power the 2.0 gives you particular at low rpm is worth it plus its a better place to start tunning from with respect to cams etc.
