Valver Insurance for the under 19’s

Hi there, just a quick note to stop insurance companies wastin your time as I have already this morning. I gave Adrian Flux a call to see do for me if anything on a valver (im only 17). After speaking to one of their operators he informed me of a company he could put me through to who have lists of insurance companies and would be able to filter this list to see who would be able to help.

After being put through to this other company i was informed norwich union direct would be able to give me a quote.

So then i was put through to norwich union direct, after holding for 15 minutes i spoke to possibly the most unhelpful advisor in the country who was unable to find a valver on her system and asked me if i was sure that was what i meant and i wasnt getting mixed up!

When she finally found a valver on her system she asked me if i was over 25 as this would be the minimum age they will insure anyone on a valver!! i replied with a few choice words of my own explaining exactly what had just happened and who id spoken to.

Severley fcuked off i asked to speak to someone a bit more senior, to which she replied there was noone available to take a call at that moment in time so she put me on hold.

Finally after a further 10 minutes of holding she hung up on me! so about 25 minutes wasted! I hope by reading this that they dont waste anyone elses time as they did mine!

Has anyone else had a similiar experience with either of these companies???

Well I wouldnt mind but the thing is Ive not had a single quote yet and have spoken to so many different companies and at least 10 brokers is getting very annoying! Can anyone point me in the right direction???

that sounds good, how long have you held your licence for? just went to quoteline direct wanted just under 5k for TPFT! lol

iv got a valver only 18

had to go in my mams name for 680 this yr fully comp

try elephant.co.uk

i could insure it 3rd party ft at 18 for 1200 no no claims etc and modded

Had a valver since i was 18, at 18 it cost me £1500 TPFT with insurance factory birmingham, on a reasonable post code, cat1 alarm etc

Try ringing HIC and asking for Phil - 01279 719932

Doubt even hell be able to get it that cheap at only 17!

it cost me £1233 fc with a pass plus at 20 with about 9months experience, no bonuses for a 1.2 8v RL which was about 3-4 years old or 900 squid tpft. A corsa 1.2 8v merit was £1400!!!!, 1.2 LS was £1700 and the 1.4 8v GLS was £2400 (i was after an SRI at the time) so as you can see you havent got a hope in hell to insure a valver for something reasonable. They do a 1.2 8v in the new shape but i doubt thats very fast and the dealer wont insure you either. Try direct line online - put the excess up as much as you can afford. this will stop the operator from refusing you before it even goes into the computer.

If you use HIC, just be careful, read all the small print very carefully. I know as I had a quote from Phil which sounded great but when I read the small print the policy didnt match up to the policy discribed over the phone.

You could try tescos, theyre quite good with young drivers but dont be expecting anything under £1500 for a valver @ 17 yrs old!

Well im finally getting quotes;

Elephant want just shy of 4k FC or just under 3k TPFT. oh and they wanted 7.5k FC for a williams 1!!!

Quoteline direct want just under 5k TPFT,

I think its gonna be a case of usin mams full NCB for the 1st yr and grin and bear it after that!

Thanks for eveyones help on this,

Jack.

Using elephant, add your mum as a second driver on a policy in your name... Unless shes had claims/points then itll drop your quote by a fair chunk.

It might seem like the best bet to have it in her name this year, but its just not. You might as well start now and have it drop considerably next year.. I regret not getting on the ladder of NCB sooner, and still pay high insurance (at 21) as a result.

Also go 3rd party, because if you crash it yourself youll have to swallow it anyhow..... this year is all about keeping your NCB intact no matter what!

Bloody hell! Valver at 17?! I had enough trouble getting insured on a sh*tty slo-va SR at that age - good luck!

It costs me 1500 at 20 with 1 yr ncd fully comp on my valver with performance mods. Ade Flux.

Now at 18 my first car a 1.1 fiesta was 900 tpft after i chose to pay by instalments at an apr of 30.6% it ended up closer to £1300!

All i can say is i wouldnt have insured myself on that fiesta and by some miracle i didnt write it off and its just a fiesta! I thought it was the fastest thing on earth.

BTW I was with Norwich Union Direct until i got the valver and yes they said i had to be 25 to drive that car. Pain in the ass yes but good company none the less.

Good Luck and let me know how you get on

Buy a god damn 1.4 RT for a year or two! or you already got one lol?

As for NU being hopeless you probably got though to a call center in India!

Try http://www.confused.comhttp://www.confused.com. They search through a load of places and give you a list of places from the cheapest to the inevitable "we are unable to give you a quote today".

Also, there is a student only company (try it even if youre not a students because they seem to try and do it for all young people). I think it is Endsleigh http://www.endsleigh.co.uk/U color=#800080http://www.endsleigh.co.uk//U

http://www.4youngdrivers.comhttp://www.4youngdrivers.com might be ok, as I recall, I did a quote on my Mums V6 Mazda 323, and they wanted about £4K, which in comparison doesnt seem that bad now.

Hope that helps. My advice is go on your own policy, not your Mums, because that could end up screwing you both, one of my friends lost his mum all her (full) NCB because he was inexperienced and ploughed into the back of someone, now their insurance is about the same price cos he had to start again with 0NCB and she also has 0NCB.

If he goes on his own! Going to cost more on Insurance that the car. Or near what it costs.

Just stick with a 1.4RT or something for a year or two. Less likely to crash as well! There is a reason for Insurance being pricey for Young Drivers

Have you tried tesco! They are quite good for young lads. Im only just 22 an got my 172 insured with them for just under £1300 and thats with 2 yrs NCB and a nice hefty claim 3yrs ago!

Had an XR2 as my first car (17) tho an that cost £1400 a year Third party only!! That was declarin the mods tho!

The simple fact is you wont get insured on a valver at 17. No chance, at all, ever. Give up.

Besides, to be vaguely responsible..as a young driver (18) something that fast for someone with limited experience is a very bad idea. I drive like my arse is on fire with the 1.2 so god knows what id be like with something quick..probably be part of a wall by now!

My first car at 17 (5yrs ago) was a 175 bhp Uno Turbo mk1, insured im my mums na,me through Kwickfit insurance for £680...... wicked car!

then at 19 bought a GtiR paid 1900 TPFT through Tesco.. I think the best thing to do is get a kitcar, Im 22 and my 180bhp Westfield only costs £400 FCper yr, with all mods declared and no bonus (as you have to use this on your main car)..... and it does 60 in 4 secs!! mmmmmmmmm
