valver or williams

  54 astravan 1.7tdci
i was thinkin about gettin rid of my 1.2(yawn) dynamique and getting a cheaper but faster car.the reliabilty and fuel costs dont matter as i have changed jobs and now cycle to work so a new car would be more of a toy.

so i want to find out who would buy a valver which i could mod or a williams and slowly restore it.

Either, they are both great fun having driven a Williams and owning a 16v. Williams is a bit harder to find and a bit more expensive (maintenance is identical) that said you seem to see fewer standard valvers maybe. Dom

Williams all the way.
That bit more special and will hold it's value better.
I have a Williams 1 for sale.

Mat.

I went from my 1.2 to a Williams.
I knew if I'd have got a 16v, I'd always want a Williams anyway so might aswell just go for it in the first place!
There is more difference than you think. The insurance is more, and the initial cost will be more but it's worth it.

So my vote goes to a Williams.

I think it depends on what sort of condition you can get either one in.

When I first joined I had a 1.2 and wanted a Williams... I got some really good advice from members and some suggested the valver would be an ideal sort of stepping stone to a williams, which I agree with. I have had my valver for over a year now and it's been superb.

One day, I will get a Williams...... But for now? I'm in no hurry to get rid of my valver! :)

On the contrary.. I think a lot of members love the valver!

It's quite well respected by the people 'in the know'

I'd see how much money you have and see what examples are availiable.
Personally I'd get the Williams as there that bit more powerful rarer and better handling but its all subjective a good valver will be better than a worn Williams.

Get the Willy, worth it for the wider front track alone, the handling is amazing. If you do get one try and get a decent Willy 1 as they are the ones to go for (no pun intended...)

both are great cars, it was simular for me when buying one, but i knew if i got a valver id only want a williams anyway so ended up with a williams 3, alot of ppl are fitting the 2.0 in them and fitting wide track, says it all really lol

i now and then get asked is it a real williams or not, nice to be able to actually say yes it is a real one, not a 1.8 'dressed' up so to speak

Williams, many think it's the best hot hatch ever! It's quick, handles well, looks good and has iconic status. You'll also be able to say you owned a Williams once! Awesome car.

I love both......only reason i really have a valver is coz they are cheaper to buy, but like a few people have sed they are both pretty awsome!!!!

I had a 1.8 16v and when i had that i would have said theres no need and that theyre great. Now i own a 2.0l i couldnt have it any other way.

Theyre great! :D

Ive always wanted a williams so i would sya get one. Valvers are good but i think you will find a better example of a williams than a valver. Valvers get thrashed to pieces and not really looked after. + willy is faster and more exclusive and so on. Only downside isthe insurance for me was £300 a year more than the valver.

ok then how much would it cost to plant a f7r in my valver? all this has got me thinking- Christmas soon

yeah the insurance and initial cost is the difference between them....

it depends what you wanna do in the long run to
if you like modding cars then go for a vlaver as the willy really needs to be left original (unwritten rule)....although whichever car you go for they are brilliant

Its all relative theres very good and very bad examples of both about and plenty of variations in between

Both very fun cars to drive with excellent driving position

Usually you get what you pay for these days as there are some very 'tired' examples around thankfully mine is one of the freshest :)

0-60 theres next to nothing in it above that the willy is the stronger (please don't argue) the power delivery is the real difference

I love mine, it sounds great and looks great in near enough standard trim (cosmetically)
