valver question

Just been to look at a 16V clio with intention to buy. I have had them in the past so i know a bit about them. This one seems ok but has a worrying problem of the idle speed is 1400rpm after you thrash it and it wont return to 900rpm unless you turn off the engine and restart it. Its as if its overfueling for some reason after you drive it a bit hard and then gets stuck @ 1400rpm anyone know what causes this and how to fix it.

In english lads, I was thinking its perhaps the sensor that monitors fuel/air mix and is overcompensating. Is it a big job to fix and whats the cost. I wont be doing it myself so probably a renault job.

maybe a throttle potentiometer or idle valve problem. i dont think the speedo cable sensor would cause that.the computer only slightly increases revs(to prevent stalling) when you come to a halt(even if the speed information from the speedo sensor was indicating to the computer to increase the revs it wouldnt increase it that high)

Jay im glad you replied as i would probably take it to lambies anyway do you think its worth buying, the coolant was right up to the top and the plastic cover over the spark plugs was missing and was covered in oil. Its done 70k and he wants £2300 for it?

doesnt sound a partically good car really.its a lot of money seeing as hes selling it with a running problem that potentially could be exspensive to fix(lambs will probably charge about £50 diagnostic fee and then youve got the repair after that which could be pretty exspensive depending on what they find wrong).id never buy a car with a running problem unless it was very cheap and i new exactly what was wrong with it.for that price you could get one that runs fine and has been looked after better.my mate picked up a minter on an m reg for £2500.i changed the cambelt on it and gave it the once over.it was completly rust free, low mileage, mint interior, didnt find anything wrong with it and it had loads of history.so there are good cars out there.dont go and buy the first tatty one you see because you only regret it.

The speed sender on the back of the speedo as said.

Not your car so you want really run a couple test runs can you.
