Valver throttle potentiometer

Hi
I have fitted a new throttle potentiometer after all the wires where ruined on mine, it seems to be working fine but the Haynes manual says it needs to be set up with a special Renault tool (as every other part!). Does anyone know the worst case scenario of putting this off, is it just over/under fuelling?

a dodgy idle most likely! if its not been touched other than the wires then it might be fine mate!!
