I had a drag in my valver against me mates xr2i which is completely standard but with a rebuilt engine. In 1st gear I pulled about a cars legnth 2nd gear pulled about 2/3 cars legnths and 3rd gear just left him behind by quite a bit.
had a mk3 xr2i, did some weight-loss modifications like let the arches, sills and floor rust away, so it was pretty nippy. still nowhere near as fast as a valver though
They're not in the same league, never really were.
That been said i'm a massive Ford fan. Got an original Mk1 Supersport in dry storage, but its got a 1730 x flow in on twin 40s etc its very quick but i'm restoring it back to standard with the 1300.
I had a freak 1.6 CVH XR2i which was unusually quick and would piss all over my mates 19 16v but I would say the clio would definatley be quicker...even than my old freak. Don't forget there was a 1.6 8v XR2i and a 1.8 16v, the 1.6 was actually quicker and more powerful as there was no cat fitted.
valver no probs, the 2i is a really bad car and a slur on the XR tradition, it can't handle go or stop utter crap IMO. My other car is a mk1 fiesta supersport which is my first love and and a total classic.
