Verdict on this Samsund LCD tv.

I am looking to buy this tv as it looks the business. Is this a good deal and a good tv or can anyone recommend something better.

Not sure what the difference is but I beleive the 1080p to be the better/best model.

just incase you though i was bullshitting just took a pic, excuse the setup in between moving houses and i have just plonked stuff and made it work rather than get it tidy...

The LE40M86BD has the 1080p screen.Any samsung TV with M in the model number has 1080p built in.

Work in an electrical retailer so i have to be clued up

You cannot get a TRUE 1080 plasma.The gas cannot currently be safely compressed to make this possible.If you want a sharp, bright HI-Def picture go LCD

1080 is still not the highest HD can go.1440 may be on the horizon

an LCD = crap in crap out.

some are more friendly but 90% will give you a crisp bright PC picture but a god awful freeview, SD image

the sammy of mine took ages to sort out an exceptional picture (not just an average one) its horrid at low res stuff, but on 720p, 1080p/i its stunning, not for the colours or definition but for the fact its the first LCD ive seen with plasma rivaling blacks and no image lag i.e great for games.

look at it like high end audio equipment, play mp3 through it and it will sound flat, 2d, you will hear the phasing sound and compression artifacts, but supply it with a top end cd player or vynil recording and it will blow you away.

plasma is a lower res alternative for the masses to watch there with there junk equipment.


and im talking £800 40" lcd vs £800 plasma not a £6k plasma because they are obviously awesome however even at £6k you will struggle to find a decent 1080p plasma with 3 HDMI inputs like the sammy 40"

beyondtelevision is where i go tmy sammy 40" 1080p screen for £870 inc HD807 upsamling samsung dvd player reduced as part of the bundle to £24 ! the hdmi lead was £30 so the lead was £6 more expensive than the dvd player lol, plays mp3, jpeg etc..

You need your eyes testing, in the home lcd can't compete with plasma.

If you want gaming get a DLP projector.

yes it can untill Plasma can run high def res, they tend to be 1024x768 at most, LCD often are 1920x1080 (true HD)
that 768,432 pixels verses 2,073.600 pixels....thats almost 3X the res....but agree that Plasma has blacker black

although there is a Plasma that does 1920x1080 but its over £4,000

1080p is a waste of money atm, you have to buy an HD or blue ray player that will play HD in 1080P (some only do 1080i, but put it in tiny writing, the toshiba jumps to mind)

Get a good 100hz tv instead and spend the rest of your cash on a nice upscalling dvd player, they do 80% of an HD player, but at a fraction of the cost. Admitadly even a 1080i HD player will knockyour socks off though, but they should for £350.

HD is a still silly expensive and there are so many little issues with it.

For example i am informed by my philips rep. that current hdmi leads are not capable of moving a 1080p image and sound at the same time, 1080i and sound are fine, but if you want to display a 1080p image and get sound down the lead as well you need to buy a HDMI 1.3 (panasonic include them with their products as standard)

Plasma relieves itself all over LCD if you want a realistic image as opposed to a bright cartoon like image with rubbish blacks.

Well I will wait untill Plasma can do 1920x1080 res before I buy one, will get a Blue Ray player at the same time, untill then I will stick with my 42" LCD, looks far better my my mates Plasma (1024x768) when watching HD programs (much sharper image), which is all I watch really anyway these days, agree that SD tends to look better on Plasma lol

agree black is better on Plasma though. although LCD is getting better with its blacks.....
