Vibratey at Idle

  Clio 182
Hi got an 04 Clio 182 yesturday. Today i have noticed it seems a bit bumpy/ vibratey when i am stopped at lights, etc. Also I have done about 25 miles and it has eaten a 1/4 tank of fuel. I haven't been caning it, but even if i had this seems incredibly high consumption. Any ideas what it could be?

To top it, the friggin garage i bought it from are being very difficult and it is looking like they won't help. Anyone know where i stand with regards to Trading Standards?

arrrrrrrrgh!

The idle on my 2005 182 has been the same at idle since buying new, the fuel consumption does however seem excessive, when stuck in traffic like most days I get about 25 mpg.

Most F4R engines run slightly lumpy. My 182 has been like that since i bought it at 20,000 miles, Had a new engine at 24,000 miles (cambelt snapped) and the new engine is exactly the same.. i believe its very very common to be lumpy as theres lots of reports about it.

have you checked to see if its running rich, should be able to smell it by standing/kneeling near the exhaust.

My consumption is shite too. get 35mpg on motorways (70mph) - get 20-25 around town, if ur worried take it to a garage and get it checked out

Don't trust the fuel gauge or trip computer.

Next time you fill up see how much it takes and compare that to the miles you did since last fill up to get a real indication of MPG.

My 182 has much more cabin vibration at idle than my 172 cup, haven't had it long enough to decide if it is normal or not yet.

Nothing to worry about mate. The idle can be a little spluttery on them. You could have a look to see if the throttle body is dirty, but at the age its probably going to be ok. Fuel wise - The 182 must have a wierd fuel tank because if you fill it up it shoots down two bars quite quickly. Don't know why. Its is a more gradual reduction after that though.

they do run a bit lumps but check against other cars as it can be other things ie cam phaser which is broken leading to it sounding so bad

Mine is doing this now, is it not just a spark plug on its way out causing the engine to fire mainly on three cylinders? Will be firing on all four but three mainly, because this would cause both higher fuel consumption and it would cause a judder when the engine is idle, as the engine will be unbalanced.

I may be wrong though, but that is kinda how mine feals.
