Virgin internet being pants for any1 else?

  ?
One more time.

There is no cap at all. You can download whatever you like. If you download more than your tarrifs limit during peak times, that day, your speed will be cut until midnight, that day. Then it goes back up again adn you can download as hard as you possibly can until the next peak time.

Basically you can queue up 1000000000000000GB and it will just slow down between 16:00 & 00:00. You can download more now over 24 hours than you could before, but for 8 of those hours your speed might be cut down in order to make the service useable for everyone.

Phone The Internet Police!

I know all this! The POINT IS!
  • Most people in my household only actually USE the internet between 4pm-night
  • We have many pcs all using the internet extensively
  • 700mb is used up very quickly
  • The internet is therefore at 2 meg for the rest of the night.
So were effectively getting 2meg instead of 4meg. Regardless of downloading, im talking about actually surfing, streaming videos, checking e-mails and recieving files.

2mb is more than enough for what you describe unless you're all streaming at the same time, even across 4 PCs. If it isn't, and you will easily kille the 700mb mark, then you need XL. Why does that mean you should get it for free? I don't get it mate :)

For the experts - would it pay for me to go to giaganews for the 20 connections?

Usenet just now is clocking in at around 18mb, I wonder if 20 connections could puch that a tad further :D

Jesus. I'll need to start downloading to the desktop Pc upstairs.

With this laptop I'm finding that the HDD is being swamped with the incoming data. The HDD, being a laptop unit, simply can't keep up, and is tending to slow down the whole PC because the disk is UberBusy.

OK here is my experience of the traffic shaping. I've been spanking 16mb+ since Friday with no issues at all and no shaping that I've noticed. Today at around 17:30 my speed is capped at 5mb. That's fine becasuse the stuff I'm downloading probably won't be used until late tomorrow anyway. By the time I wake up tomorrow it should be back to 20mb so it's all good :)

The system works for me so far :D
