VW paint correction

Hello geeks. :)

I've been putting it off, but it really is time to machine my wifes VW beetle. Whats the general thoughts on VW paint? I will be using my rotary and medium pads as thats all I have. The only compound I have is G3 but I don't want to use something that heavy if I can get away with something else.

So, what do you reccomend? Its a dark metallic blue and is, tbh, fucked with swirls and RDS.

Any help advice will be very much appreciated it. x

Ideally not, but its possible.

Russ, thats no help at all, but thanks anyway. x

If you don't need it to be showroom perhaps go with something middle of the road (Menzerna 203s etc) and let a filler glaze do the rest of the work (Amigo, black hole etc).

When I did mine last year I used G3 and medium pads, it 100% needed the harshness of the g3 or i would have been on it for f**king ages. I'm sure seat paint is around the same thickness as vw paint.

Trouble is with a heavy cut polish is, you are likely to induce your own marring which needs refining.

Hence a second stage polish or a glaze.

how about G-techniq P1? different to alot of polishes because the abrasives dont break down, and you polish with the grade pad you require until you get the required results (in a round about way!) and as Aucky says Glaze to finish it off.

yeah you can get away with g3! bit old hat but will do the job! slow speed and loads of water will sto some of the swirl marks!
you could finish with a 3m waffle pad and some finesse it for a great finish!

I've just been in the garage and i've got a waffle pad and some blacktop handglaze.

That any good??

Yeah finish with that after G3 or use it to fill instead :)

I don't want to fill really, frp content boy.

Its got about 25 coats of SRP on it asthats all i've been doing since I bought it. I want to get it sorted and then I can leave it alone instead of having to SRP it every weekend to hide the swirls! lol.

So will G3 and hand glaze be ok? I'm not a keen detailer so don't want to buy any products just to have them sit in the garage after i've used a small amount on the beetle.

G3 on a harsh pad. Black top (glaze) on a black pad to finish mate. Jobs a good un.

I'm sure you'll take all the credit if it works.

At least think of me whilst you're getting your penis wet because the car looks "clean".

Yeah Dan, it sounds like an old school 3M pad. Perfect.

For a single stage polish on VAG I'd suggest something like Menz 203S and a 3M Polishing Pad. The key is to choose something which cuts well but also finishes down perfectly (no hologramming!). As stated, using G3 will just leave you with a mess!

Having the same problem on a mk4 golf.I used gtecniq p1 and a yellow sonus pad on a Das pro 6,and it didn't touch it.Im going to have a go at it with a mezerna white pad and some fast gloss after a conversation with the cleanyourcar boys. The p1 just isnt harsh enough,it did make the paint smooth though if that's any consolation after 3 hours of machining it.

P1 should be used as an all in one style polish and change the pad to get correction. It's not a great polish though. P2 is very good.
