want to upgrade my desk top, zero idea!

right my pc is running very slow and i want to upgrade it either a desk or lap top up to £400 mark,
my pc was made by a mate for me but i dont have a clue what it is, to upgrade it from,

on screen it tells me intell pent 3 732mhz 384mb of ram

ive opend it up and from what i can read it says
dimm slot1 128mb,133mhz
dimm slot2 133x64c3/256
dimm slot3 empty

agp/aimm slot 4mb aimm 133mhz

i only use it for surfing net but would like to sort few games and downloads etc,

ive been looking at all the web sites to upgrage but cant figure out what all the mhz, gb ram etc relate to,
any help would be great

So you only got 384MB's ram, suprised it can run?!

Download and run Cpu-z, that'll tell you whats inside. Take a few print screens and post em up.. specially of Memory..

If your just surfing the net, I wouldn't bother dropping money on a new system, a few gigs Ram should get it up to speed...

what are you gonna be using it for?

if youre gonna be gaming, then a desktop is the only real option for a £400 budget, if its for general web/word document etc etc then i highly recommend this

generally pcs are cheaper than laptops, £erformance

you need a monitor too or just a base unit?

you can build a decent spec base unit for £400 that will play most old games on max settings and new games on mediumish

well yours is a 700mhz processor, that is a 2200, so it should in theory be 3x quicker.

it has 4x as much ram as yours

Plus its a dual core processor so its essentialy light years ahead of what you have.

Basically if you don't play games, thats absolutely fine. If you want to play games the system is fine excpet for the graphics card!

I expect that the mother board will have a PCI-E slot but it will just not be in use. But I can't be absolutely sure since it doesn't tell you the make/model of the board.
