Warning Lights Fault - ABS, Traction Control and SERV

  Better than yours. C*nt.
Hi all,

Wondering if anyone can shed any light:

My 182 has occasional faults with what I can only assume is part of the braking system - the ABS light, Traction Control light and the SERV light come on. This can be cleared by turning the ignition off then on, and doesn't affect the engine running at all or the brakes - which seem to be fine. All pads are fairly new and the fluid was checked by Renault but they couldn't reproduce the fault...

Any help would be appreciated!

Cheers,
Mike

Mike, What you describe usually occurs if the rear wheels are not rotating as fast or close to the front wheels.

It could also result from ABS speed sensors on the rear wheels not working properly. Have you changed your rear discs?? If so, you need to check the wheel speed sensor.

As a test, raise the front end of the car, pull on the handbrake and put the car in gear, and speed up a bit, 40km/h on the speedo should be more than enough. If the same fault occurs then its a speed sensor issue .

Hope this helps

Nothing has been changed on the car, although I think Renault may be useless near me. Seems to be the general opinion of all Main Stealers anyway...

Will think about having a go at your suggestion although I'm a little lacking in bits to do that with...!

Sounds like the brake switch above the brake pedal needs adjusting or replacing as it can cause the symptoms you are describing, if it was me i would just re-adjust it and see how it goes and if it does it again get it into the dealer to get a new switch fitted under warranty.

It does seem to be when I'm under just average braking conditions that this happens, if that's any help.

A lot of the time it does'nt matter how you are braking to bring on the warning lights, mine used to do it randomly when i was not braking at all, the switch is also linked to the cruise control, most cruise systems carry out self tests to confirm the switch works, which may be why it brings on the warning lights randomly.

Yea brake light switch use to happen all the time when 182 first came out, there is a technical note out on it, try adjustment then extra adjustment then switch replacement.
