Warning to all clio buyers. Please read!

After having what is still thought to be a gear bow problem i took my car to a renault garage. They looked at the car and told me what they thought the problem was. i asked if the warrenty would cover it a nd was very suprised when they said that the warrenty had expired, and that the car was a grey import! HPI did not pick this up and its not on my V5 and neither did the garage that in bought the car from. Apparently because the car is an import the normal 3 year warrenty does not apply, i only get two years.......nice of someone to tell me. So be warned a HPI check or your V5 will tell you, you have to ring renault and get them to do a chassis number check. I hope this saves someone from buying am import in stead of a U.K car. And guess who originally imported the car????? A renault dealership!!

You have to apply for the extra two years to Renault UK but as long as its not imported from Cyprus and is imported from anywhere else in the EU.

If I was you Id find out who the original dealer was that sold it as a UK car in the first place, Im sure Renault UK would like to hear of any dealers selling new cars not sourced in the correct way. Unless of course it was originally sold by a dealer on the continent then resold on over here by a supermarket such as Motorpoint.

BTW, a grey import is one from Japan etc, one from Europe where the car is the same as it would be sold over here, only it came via a different route is called a parallel import or EU import.

Unfortunately thats right. If within the first 12 months of the car being over here someone had written Renault requesting the warranty be extended then it would have 3 years. See this letter:http://www.leemather.plus.com/stuff/rw.jpg Link

The thing that gets me is that you say the dealer that sold it in the first place sold it as a UK car. If that was a Renault dealer and the car was in fact a parallel import then he is very much in the wrong.

Did you buy it second hand from a Renault dealership?

Where and when did you buy it? As Lee says, all it should take is a call to reno to get the warranty sorted unless its a cypriot version.

Bought the car from a non renault dealer. But originally car was sold from a renault franchise called baldocks of bracknell. Did strike me as very strange that they decide to import instead of buy through renault u.k. Think that somthing V. dodgy is going on.
