Water look dirty

After topping up my water 2day I noticed that the water looked brown in colour and that there was oil over the air pipe that has the airfilter on the end. Could the oil be in the water??

Its a 1.8RSI '97

Could be, what does it smell like? Any water in the coolant?

The oil by the filter is probably just oil coming up the breather.

Coolant goes off after sometime, needs to be cleaned out flushed and refilled, oil is from the breather on the back of the engine.

Some coolant starts a reddish colour anyway, goes brown quick, its from rust in the radiator and scum in all the pipes and stuff. Empty the tanks, flush the radiator and refill. Haynes gives you all you need.
