Weird internet/network/software issue

So yeah, not sure what section exactly to put this in so i'll go here.

Basically. I've got a desktop pc i fired up today for the first time since i got back. So 7 months of no use. Connected it to the internet via a plug in wireless hub thing. Internet works fine, all peachy. Go to dl some legal materials via flashget. Internet stops working. Reboot the router via my laptop, all peachy on the internet again. Go to use flashget again, internet crashes. Repeat. However if i don't run flashget, internet seems to work fine on the desktop. Along with this, i've run flashget on my laptop on the same network for the past 3 weeks no issue.

Totally kerfuffled. :(

It's a download manager i use for my rapidshare files.

I'ma try a different version in a min see what that does.

I've had certain versions of Java do exactly what you're describing.

Check which one is on your laptop and put it on your desktop

Don't want to speak too soon. But it's been running for 5 mins now. So may well have fixed it...

What a weird issue. Thanks a lot.

Seems to still be playing up. Think ima just move to a different dl manager, flashget isnt worth all this trouble.

Still playing me around with 3 different dl managers. Format/fresh windows here we come. Can't be arsed to mess around any more.

try reducing the number of parts per file that it splits it down to... and try reducing the number of simultaneous downloads, see if that resolves it.

Jesus. Re-installed windows and it's still happening. Got java etc. If i dl via the web through chrome it works, although is slow at 100kb/s where as it dl's at 3000kb/s on my laptop via flashget. But if i use flashget it crashes the internet.

Any more ideas.

^^ Will crash on just one single download.

FFS. Not my time with computers right now. So many little niggles.

Still but get that thing sorted but meh for right now.

Having mad issue connecting to my tv. Simple right. Plug in s-video, turn on tv, select the s-video channel then 'extend to other monitor' and it should come up. I f**king wish. Just wont see the tv. mmm

Connect your computer directly to your modem, not through a router and I bet your problem will go away.. I've seen some shite routers buckle under multiple threaded downloads.. Normally through bit torrent though.

I'd agree with you, however the program runs fine on my laptop.

I have a feeling it's to do wit the wirless thing my computer uses to connect(unless that's what you meant by router). However i don't have another to check with right now. But i'll put that at the top of the list.

I feel ashamed to call myself a geek today. :(

Probably because you aren't a geek, just some c**t who can do a touch more than turn the laptop on ;)
