Went to view a ph1 172 before

lol couldn't live with a ph1 everyday, he's not a soft woman is he?? :)

Christ a car would have to be literally falling apart with seat springs poking in my ass before I'd say I couldn't live with it everyday, people are going soft nowadays :p

It's got decent seats, air con, what more do you need.

Had mine over 4 years and used it for my commute and it's fine :)

And a big lol at the one for sale for 4k, could at least have had the steering wheel done!

My advice would be find one based on condition rather than mileage, that one might have had 40k on it but low mileage isn't always best for a car! Just find one that's been looked after and you'll be fine.

I also pretty much agreed to buy mine before viewing it, it was up in Southampton with me being in Torquay, so not too far.

I know this totally goes against everything i have ever said but could you live with a ph1 everyday? they are getting on a bit now and they feel really old. You have an 05 plate ish clio and to drop down to a ph1 even if it is a sport will be a big downgrade in quality. I know full well i couldn't live with a ph1 day to day but it depends on your budget and how badly you want it. I know a ph1 will be quicker and more raw than a ph2 172 but for a day to day nice car a ph2 would be better. Just think about it before you spend your cash and make sure you get a drive in one as they will not feel as tight or new as your car.

Its a Clio not an F1 car, ffs!

Blind folded no one could tell the difference between sitting in a phase 1 or phase 2 seat, no one

where in that did i mention interior?

what i meant was unless you spend a lot of money refreshing bushes, suspension and engine mounts a ph1 is always going to drive like an old car coz it is an old car. his 05 plate clio is going to feel a lot tighter and less wobbly/creaky/clunky than any ph1 would as none of the bushes have had time to perish the suspension will still be fresh and a the engine mounts shoundn't be shagged.
I know from driving newer cars how bad the ph1 feels to jump back into which is why mine is off the road having absolutly evrything replaced to make it factory fresh again.

I can kind of see where W17GLE is coming from. I use my Ph1 as an everyday car but I have also spent a fair chunk of cash sorting out age related problems and I'm buying even more bits ATM to sort out a few other bits, none really major problems just bits that go with age like mounts and bushes. It's all down to how you want the car to feel/drive. That said though, I drive brand spankers a lot through work and each and everytime I get out of one and into my Ph1 it makes me smile; even with it's creaks, knocks and nine year old technology.

Ph1 > New car (IMO)

I do see your point, however the 172 is definately a step in the right direction. The difference between a 2001 ph1 and a 2002 ph2 isn't going to be huge is it? Only a year difference.

If I wanted a car the same age as mine it would have to be a 182 which is over budget to me as I want no finance and cash spare for any repairs and things like mounts etc.

No there won't be any difference between a ph1 and an early ph2 really i was thinking more towards the 182 but if they are out of budget then that is fair enough.

You'll love a ph1 as you know i've had two now and its the only one i'd have.

As much as i'd like a 182, it would be stretching the budget. I realy like the ph1's and its a bit of a project/learning curve too so thats all part of the decision.

An early phase 2 car is likely to cost a touch more than a late phase 1 car, that's just the way things are. For example £3000 sees you in amint phase 1, but in a not so nice phse 2 car (imo)

Regarding the bushes that is absolute nonsense.

The only thing i replaced was a coil pack in the year and a half and 16000 miles i covered in it

And how old was the Ph1 when you had it? Mine turns nine this December and I've already replaced both ball joints, have a new dog bone mount to go on and am going to be replacing all the engine mounts too. Oh and top mounts...possibly wish bone and ARB bushes too. So yeah pretty much all of them. :clown:

i got mine at 19, i didnt no there was an oil level indicator?!

  PH-QUICK
My ph1 is 10 in march and is still on all original mounts and joints! Everything is still rock solid. Only complaint i have is the litre of oil it uses every 1000 miles.

I've had a look on PH. Everything seems to be down south though. I'm only willing to travel for a minter. I'd prefare to find one slightly closer to home if possible.

Always the way I'm afraid. If you do travel and find a good one, give it a week or two and aload of them will appear for sale that are local.

Good lad Brett im sure itll be a good un'

Im desperate to get another, still devistated about binning the last, i just know im gonna compare the new one if anything goes wrong... :(

True you will but its a better option than a 106 GTI imo which where both yours and my other option. The GTI's of the same price usually have higher mileage and are a bit older.

I'm sure you'll find another mate, like you said your willing to travel. Which I tried to avoid but it seems impossible not to.

True mate, they get better as you go further south lol

There is honestly one decent one in Scotland and its 54 f**king miles away :(

Screw it, if i need to travel i will :)

  320d
Well I took your advice and bit the bullet and am going to travel. To be honest I was only willing to travel that far because the sellers off here and I trust him. It is a long and costly journey, one I wouldn't want to make for a bad car.

I'd take a chance as the 54 mile one though mate.

Lunar miles indeed danny boy....

Where abouts is the one thats 54 miles from you?
