Get someone to knock you up a custom exhaust.

you cant just bolt an exhaust on and get the same response , then engine does produce different gases at different performance bands .

even if you had a straight through , bypassing the cat , it would sound louder but it would pop more .

Yes but the only way your going to get close without doing an engine swap is by tuning an exhaust.

I had my car up on a lift the other day at an exhaust place, to get my magnex oval fitted, i opted not to put it on the car as its far to big for my liking, i noticed the car has cat then just straight to back box, the guy at the exhaust place is going to fit a universal back box onto my car i think....im just hoping I might get this noise, anywere near it

I think the closest that you'll get is a decat and custom exhaust, one of the best sounding 1.2s I've heard was f0xy's old car:
