  Black 182 f&f
hi all i am new guy here ! i am on here looking for some help i am looking to get a clio but not sure what one to get the 172, 172cup or the 182's cup i do like the 182 trophy but that just might be out the price range, i was lookin at a 172cup the other day but just not sure in what one what to get an whats the specs are in the clios i have been readin thro a few threads trying to get some info on the clios before i get 1, any person that could shed a little help or info would be great thanks again

172 fall fat as its known has all the toys zeons abs leater Climate crusie control (in the later versions)
The 172 Cup lost a lot of toys back to dynamic seats ie cloth no xeons or aircon as standard only cams in blue (although to eb difficult they did make later ones in silver and with aircon as an option but there rare)
182 is like a 172 full fat realy bit more power different hbs in the case of the car swith cup suspension.
182 cup lost some of the 182 normal car toys xeons and climate for one it had to have aircon and kept its ABS etc.
The CUp 172 is the car for harder driver track days etc out the box.
Personally I'd go for a 172 later version or a 182 full fat and have them with coilover suspension.

good thing if you can stretch to afford a trophy is that the price wont depriciate as much over the years with them being only 500 made. also they come with excellent suspension already so no need to pay out for coilys on you 172/182....

the Clio 172 and 182 (aka full fat) have all the toys, air con, half leather, xenon lights, late 172s and all (i think) 182 have cruise control and a couple other toys i cant think of.

the 172 cup has no aircon (unless its a silver one) no xenon lights, no half leather, no cruise, no abs, no traction control but comes with cool wheels and the blue ones are a really nice colour.

the 182 cup isnt quite as hardcore as the 172 cup as it has abs and traction control etc.

the thing with Renault engines is they dont all put out the same power so you cant really say a 172 cup is faster than a 182 as they all vary. to be honest i wouldnt want to lose all the toys and go for a cup just because it could be slightly faster round a track

someone will be able to go into more detail on this as i dont know the full story with them.

EDIT: also the 182 comes with whats known as the cup packs, think their was 2, 1. cup spoiler pack and 2. cup suspension pack.

the cup spoiler pack gives you a splitter and better looking spoiler and the cup suspension gives you the dark (anthracite) wheels and its got stiffer springs which also lower it slightly but you can hardly notice the ride hight difference

Late 172's have EBD which is a bit of a waste on track on the road when its we and your tired its probably a good thing. Least you can turn it off though.
trophys won't hold there value any more than 182's realy maybe £500 to £1k but there more expensive to start with.

You wont really get a non biased answer to this sort of question really. As a 172CUP driver, id say buy the CUP, but at the end of the day, it is down to what you want from the car.

best bet is to test drive a couple, and see which you like best.

Hi Stev,

I owned a 172 CUP for 2 and a half years, have driven in a 172 numerous times and driven a 182 with cup packs as well so have a small bit of experience.

Personally - go and test drive them all. I found the CUP was superb and exactly what I wanted but after about a year, I longed for air con... i went and drove a 182 not long after and didn't really use it - go figure. lol.

I wanted out and out bargain hot hatch when I got my Cup and Price per :) its a winner but with prices now being around the same as a 172 with half leather and air con and ABS, I was left wondering if it was the right choice.

On the road theres jack all in it between all of the 2.0 liter 16v Clio's. Find a nice tasty, well looked after and un-touched example for good money - and you're laughing.

Remember - ask for as much advice as you want on here especially as to what to look for, what to pay, what trim level and spec it should be etc and then remember to join up once you've got your new baby.

Oh and the final thing - enjoy it. They are all an absolute scream to drive.

Welcome to CS, hope you find a good one.

Drive a few and see which ones for you. If you want all the toys full fat 172/182 is the one for you. Something inbetween 182 Cup or Trophy, or if you want to whole hog rawness, 172 Cup.

welcome, there's nothing I can say that has not already been said by my fellow Cliosport owners, they are fantastic cars to drive - good luck finding one and enjoy!
