to have the sound from my tv coming out of my stereo speakers as and when I want.

E.g I want to be able to have the sound coming out of my speakers while im playing ps2 or when im watching a film etc but I also want it set up so that I can have it normal just from the tv itself as and when i like.

You mean coming out of your hifi ?? You need RCA phono leads . If you have a video recorder connected to your tv then connect the leads to your video and to the aux connections on your hifi then when you select the AV channel on the video recorder for your ps2 , dvd player etc ...you will have the sound coming thro' your hifi for whatever is n the AV channel . If you don't havea video recorder straight from your tv's phono sockets .
Any local audio shop will sell em , a couple of quid .

If you don't have aux phono sockets on your hifi you will need phono to 3.5mm jack , or maybe even 6.3mm jack , this will be your headphone socket .
