What driveshafts for my conversion

Car  1.2 16valve sport
Ok ive got everything i now apart from gearbox+ driveshafts

I know know what gearboxs fit my f7r engine but i dont know whether i can use my original mrk2 1.2 shafts or will i need to buy valver ones or the ones which would be used with the orginal car the gearbox comes out of.

.ie if i use a r5 gearbox will i need r5 shafts or will mine fit??

Thanks in advance. Project page will be up soon make the engine look mint yesterday, polished rocket cover and cleaned it all up ect cant wait.

:D

ok cheers fred but will they reach the hubs? or be to long as its a different engine + box so i thought it might all be bigger and there will be less space between box and hubs so would need shorter shafts?

1.2 hubs yeah? fine

the box will be in the same place as the 1.2 box

i run a 172 engine and box with 1.2 everything

another 1.2 owner doing a conversion to a 1*2 :P looks like youve started a trend here fred :)

Yes olly as fred said you can use 1.2 running gear, as thats what im in the middle of doing also :)

brilliant really excited now i have to get some pictures. all i now need is a box and im sorted but all the ones at a decent price are half ways across the country..

Im going for the a old scholl engine though, distributor and all that lol.

:):)

^ yup, gearbox is the only problem, i had to buy one from ipswich which is like 6hours drive but had it deliverd for £30 :) was a long wait as gettin a courier to pick it up was a problem.

What engine you putting in ?

F7R all standard atm but once it up and running im going to save up then take it out and give it a full rebuild with new cams and high comp piston arp bolts ect.

Also might get the head proted but just want to hear it running first.

PAS is for girls

the gearbox mounting should be ok, the upper engine mount i think you can use the valver/williams mount, you can drill a hole in the subframe for the 172 lower box mount, and the dogbone you can use williams (aka phs 1 172) or a phs 2 172 dogbone

so any 172/182 dogbone mount or valver/williams one then all i need is gearbox and i can start next week.

Im not doing the wiring myself fred, but do you think it will be possible to use the f7r ecu as a sort of piggyback to mine as i think if i lose my ecu i will lose a lot of the stuff the mrk 2 has that the mrk 2 doesnt.

fred im hoping you know this if not if anyone does.

I just bought a r5 gearbox it fits ect but release bearing is knackerd plus it doesnt have a fork arm. soo

will the release bearing plus fork arm off of my 1.2 16v gearbox fit on my r5 one.

If not, I've got a fork and release bearing from a Ph1 172 box sitting around. The bearing was on mine for about 100k though, so would be risky to use on the road. The fork's fine though!
