What engine oil for track car

What engine oil and grade would be recommended for a track car? It has a set of cams, throttle bodies, upgraded conrod bolts and valves, I am also using an oil cooler? Stuck for what oil to use

I use Shell Helix ultra 5w 40, which is only £20 for 5L at ECP with discount code SAV852964. Always used it in my performance cars N/A & TC and its always performed well.

Oil is thicker when hotter , so stays about just that little bit longer when sloshing about at hotter temps

You'd get a drop in oil pressure too when it gets really thin.

That's ok when idling from cold to warm .
I don't rag it from cold it's not a daily . It's tracked .

Choosing the right oil suits certain wants from it .
Cold / hot / general driving / ragging the s**t out of it .
There are plenty to choose from .

That's what I mean. It's better to use 10w50 as it'll be thicker than 5w40 at operating temp. 5w40 when really hot will have an effect on pressure slightly.

Fine, i use 5w40.

But if you had a cammed or highly modded engine, i'd go for 10w50 for better protection/performance.

I use 10w60 Castrol oil as I'm on fancy timing and had rather low oil pressure using 5w40. 10w60 brought it up a good few psi.

Cold start 4 bar oil pressure , happy with that

I use Elf 15w50 Competition ST oil in mine, its down to what purpose your using you car for, Use the same oil in my Escort and Sierra Cosworth and my Impreza type-r....
