what handles better?

  172 Cup, 1.2 Grande
Hi better introduce myself first i'm potter (luke) and currently own a saxo vts. I have been thinking of getting either a 172 or a 182 in the next few months.
Was wondering what people would advise me getting and what's the difference between them?
Also i have heard rumours that the 172 handles better than a 182 is this true?

Thats a bit of a can of worms. Your best bet is to try and get a test drive in every variant and decide which one you prefer. They are all subtly different, however I would never say the 172 handled better than a 182, unless it was the 172 Cup.

std VS std I'd say my cup packed 182 handles better than my phase 2 FF 172 did. As Jon said though it's a can of worms, down to individual preference I guess. It's fair to say that all (assuming they dont have broken springs or fucked shocks) are good though.

182 is obviously better as its an evolution of the 172.

The cup is lighter which improves the 172 setup, but i still think the 182 has the edge.

m8 i drive both a 172 cup and 182 ( cup pack ) back to back and standard they are pretty much the same for handling!! the choice for u should b down to how much u wanna spend?? value for money for me i would hav the 172 cup!! although the Ph1 172 is great value for money!! all depends on what u want tbh!!

Hi mate,

I went from a 106 gti to my 182. I test drove a LOT of cars and the only one that came close to the fun factor of the 106 was the clio.

The clio takes a bit of getting used to as the seating position etc in the clio isn't as good (practically sitting on the floor in the 106 lol)

The clio is faster but it takes a bit longer to get used to driving it at its best as you have to get the revs above 5k before anything happens whereas the 106 was slightly better at lower revs.

Clio is definately a good progression from a 106 or saxo as they have the same principle behind them - small, good power to weight, and supurb handling!

The is just a more grown up 106 or saxo that is slightly better in every aspect (straight line speed, handling etc)

Brakes are far superior on the clio to!

Hope this helps,

David

of course it makes a difference, you have to know how to drive the car properly 1st,

for example, you pick the clio which you think handles the best and go up against an experienced racing driver, lets say the stig for example driving youre "worst handling cs" and he'll whup ya, so yes its all about the driver......

Ability and handling are two different things, i see what you are saying but having ability doesnt change the way the car works it just maximises potential.

Handling on the whole is pretty subjective anyway. What works for one will not work for another.

I'm sure Hamiltons Maclaren handles incredibly.... but Alonso might get in and think it's a bag of s**t. lol

I would say that the 182 with Cup packs has more physical grip, has slightly less body roll and is ever so slightly less prone to understeer. So most likely quicker through bends, but more susceptible to tramlining and slightly harsher over bumps.

What a strange point of view...

You're saying a car would handle better with a better driver essentially - which is patently untrue. He may be able to do more with a bad handling car, but he won't make it better.

In reality there isn't much to choose between any of the Ph2 1*2s - like people say, just subtle differences.

I would just have a long test drive in both, see which you prefer.[/quote

yeah its down to what you prefer. Personally id go for a 172 in silver or flame red, partly because it has the toys which the cup 172 aand 182 dont have, and also because i dont like exhausts.

The cup is a piece of s**t though. Even if they are fun.

S'all about personal preference tbh.
