Car  Renaultsport Clio 197
my 197 vs a mk3 gti 16v (the owner says it's completely stock)

he start's a bit better, then I get ahead of him, and then he gains on me after about 95 mp/h.

why? is it because his car has done 65000 miles and mine has done about 6500 ?

NAE CHANCE!!!!!!! The Mk3 Gti is pathetic!!! Even 3 up you should still tank it!

and the reason is ? what? my passenger and open window - not likely

the gti is not stock?
my 197 is "too new" :S?

His canny be std, but i can't image you'd get much power out of that lump, it's horse piss!

passenger...providing he's no 20stone, you should still hump him!
 
I have been done by a golf GTI 2.0T 2006/2007....going from the trafficlight upto the highway. Dunno if DSG is standard, but it surely shifted fast
 
feelx, you're talking about a 200bhp golf with a DSG, and i'm dealing with a 150bhp (or more) gti that is 10 years old (or more)

anyone else ?
 
A Mk2 golf 2.0 16v lightly modded couldn't stay with my standard 5 GT Turbo, and my 182 is quicker than my 5.

I'd say it can't be standard, had he stripped it out or anything like that
 
not stripped out.looks standard, but he sounds like he has aftermarket kit and induction. But even if he's "tuned", I should still beat him..

and the interesting thing is, I constantly beat a alfa 164 with 2.0 V6 turbo engine, and that alfa is a gti-killer
 
Mk3 gti.... shouldnt even be worrying you ! Iused to drive one abit when i was younger and thought it was fast then but now realise that its just a bit of a fatty and slow.

My mate has a VR6 with induction kit and i always get ahead of him. Sound amazing though.
 
Yeah, id be going with a VR6, my clio is modded and its an effort to get passed my mate's one but i do everytime. It cant be a standard mk3 gti.
 
and what about a pug 106 gti with a supersprint exhaust and induction kit?

i always beat that, but there isn't much too it... or am I just expecting a bit too much?

I'll just have to wait for my engine to loosen up some more, fit an induction kit, ktr exhaust and a remap?

btw, a stock 197 vs a 197 with the above mods? will the other one win by much, will it win at all?

Provided their all good quality mods then yeah it should win. Pugs are nippy but should see that off too easily.
 
the pug starts better because it has less or no wheelspin while I strugle with mine.
But it all gets better with practice.
The clio is not an easy car to "set off" properly..
 
it will be a vr6 i bet ya and hes blagged ur i think

my old mk3 gti 2.0 16v was pretty rapid once it got going and that had a power boast valve, induction kit and heat raped manifold and decat with straight through exhaust on.

wen the power boast valve turned up it flew!
 
could it be that it's really a vr6 engine, and the guy just has GTI badges?

hm...don't think so, I would've found out
 
it's a friend of a friends friend ... :) it has gti badges alround.
don't know, if it was a VR, i should know about it
 
With a few small mods the golf could get to 170+bhp but that would still not end up with a result like that. It does look like a VR6 result but as said it would be obvious from the sound so you wouldn't think he would get away with it

well a VR6 is nearly identical to a 172 in speed IMO

if it was a 150bhp gti then there's something seriously wrong with that 197!
 
the 197 is new, works well... around town I leave gti's for dead...

but this one.Even if it has 10 or 20 bhp more, i should still beat it, .. fred?
 
yes you should leave it no problem, seems weird!

ask to see under his bonnet/ask him what's been done to the engine!
 
Definetly doesn't sound like a VR6 to me. T'is a fairly distinct 'gruff' sounding V6 and can't hear any of that in the vids.

I'd say its a modded gti lump.
 
it's probably a gti, just with an induction kit .. the ind.kit gives it that deep sound
