What mods for my cup

  BMW 330d :)

This is my first posting on the forum as Ive just bought a new clio cup 172. I was wondering what modifications were best on the car for power, and value for money, and will this invalidate my warranty?

Cheers Fraser

Sealed induction kit like a ITG maxogen, BMC CDA or Pipercross Viper

SS exhaust with decat like a K-tec or supersprint

Chip like a superchip or unichip

IK and exhaust wont invalidate the whole car only things that go wrong because of the mods but a chip will invalidate it !

Gains from the above possible 15hp

Id say for better gains go with a unichip and some head work on the plebham etc.

Thats should get you about 25hp. I think about 35hp with cold air intake and exhaust.

200hp should be possible with the above and cams

Superchip WONT invalidate warrenty - i just had mine out of reno 2 days ago but had the IK taken off in case but chip left on.. all work done under warrenty and they knew i had a chip as they asked where i had it fitted...

+35 BHP takes a hell of a lot of work and money and which i dont think youll get with the above.... youll JUST about get 200bhp with a SMT6 (£600 fitted chip), viper, exhaust (dont worry about de-cat), cams, head work - youll get about 198brake - thatll be not far off £2500 if all done at same time

This is a a questionable area Renault offically wont allows mods as far as Im aware but its down to the dealers someone mentioned that some dealers are superchip installers as well which is something Ive not heard of before but it doesnt mean it is covered under Renault warently. It may be down to the dealer to fix any problem relating to it. (or superchip warently)

However you rarely heard of problem with superchipped cars not covered under the superchip warently ie failure within the first 6/12 months.

Its down to your dealer if they agree to fit a part broken under warently as they have to send failed parts to Renault to examination so if it cannot be put down to manurfacturing failure then the garage will have to pay for the work.

Err that what I said (well roughly that) since your starting with about 166hp anyway not 172. Im sure you could do it for about £2k though.

"Superchip voiding warrenty?" - Its not a questionable area if you take it Renault in Letchworth, i know, just had about £500 of work done under renault warrenty and am driving a fully repaired car now... Also, modifications on their own DONT void the entire warrenty - it ONLY can void repair to a part that COULD have been broken due to a related-modified part fitted - I.e standard knackered shocks probably wont be fixed IF you have modified springs on it... capeesh?

Unfortunately was easily misread and misleading - can be argued either way as to what was and wasnt meant - comment is in limbo-land.

it would be very tough for Joe Public with no special discount prices to get 200bhp from a stock 172 for under £2000 - I spoke with Andy from GDI(top bloke) last thurday - the price soon mounted up and i was bitterly suprised.. £230 for viper, £600 for chip/fitting, £250/300 cat back exhaust - your looking at over £1100 just for those 3 - Ive got this anyway so just got to save for the big work :( doh

Nice

How come my 172 is 166bhp not 172????

the 172 is 172 ps....not 172 bhp

PS is very slightly less than bhp, so i expect most standard 172s will be about 166 - 170ish BHP

Yep your right I should have mentioned that (the problem with late nite messages with me is they rarly make sence). Its down to dealers there are some who are ok and some who arnt my old one would kick up about anything moded even uprated bulbs and try and get out of any work but the new delealership dont care.

just got to save for the big work :( doh

I wish I had your problems my heart bleeds for you. Well done for going to do more than justa IK and exhaust work though
