what performance parts next?

i just got my 182 at the weekend so needing some advice :).

its currently got
rs192 cat back exhaust
pipercross air filter
magnacor leads

next thing im going to do is a fuel filter and uprate the spark plugs..
but then after that what is the next best mods that arent over priced?

ive been looking at decats but i am unsure if it has to be a scorpion decat i use or will any 182 decat fit my rs192 exhaust?

I wouldn't bother with the decat unless your after more noise more hassle than its worth. Performance wise there's not a lot to do as the car as standard is pretty good at what it does. Give it a good service oils coolant etc

do remaps see much gains in these cars? the car was just serviced(engine oil and filter) about 200/300 miles ago :)

I honestly can't comment plan to get one done but will have to trek down south. I think if you have a spare £200-300 for one there worth it as it smoothes the idle which for my car seams worse with the decat and gives you a better powerband. Ktec say 10-15 bhp but a lot of folk say this is too high a figure. If its coming up for a cambelt maybe performance cams would be worth it ?

not needing a cambelt for around 2 years or 40k so il worry about cams then. i would be happy if i could figures around 180/185 :)

Unless you have a healthy engine you'll need a remap and cams for that going by the figures I see on here. There's a thread that just has mods and figures which should give you a idea ;) you have a budget for mods?
 
Upgrade the spark plugs to what? The correct NGK spark plugs are the only ones the engine likes IIRC (PFR6E-10)

A lot of people say they notice the revs feeling better after a decat, with some MPG increase and slight performance.

A map suited to your mods can see some good gains.

The fuel filter is enclosed in the pump housing and doesnt need changing until 150k as far as i can remeber.

The only other thing after that on the cheap is weight saving, i.e strip it. After that theres aggressive cams, or ITB's /turbo etc but that costs £££

Is the pipercross and open cone or a panel filter?

yeh i remember looking at that thread but i cant find it now!.. okay il settle for 175-180bhp :). yeh in 2/3 weeks time i can start buying new bits and bobs for it.

thanks for help...im new to clios so im still learning.

fuel filter idea out the window then!..i dont think the spark plugs were done when the garage serviced it so im wanting to get them done,ive seen different spark plugs on ktr for sale?

not going down the weight saving route at the moment, the plan would be minor engine mods to get as much bhp without cams,itb etc... then onto buying a whiteline arb,solid top mount kit..just to sharpen up the cornering some more.

Matched inlets, go back to standard airbox, decat and remap..will be really nice and driveable..

Really good mods. Will transform the car.
 
Im the same mate ive only had my car for a few months, ive done everything to it i want so far, im just doing the odds and ends and tidying in general at the moment, im not sure if the plugs i have are NGK or else, if you search you can make your own mind up but the NGK ones i put the code up in my last post are the ones preferred.

If you have an open cone filter you will have nice noise but a slight loss of power in heat soak when your engines hot, your best bet is an ITG or other panel filter in the standard air box. Or a v6/espace airbox (search) to see what that looks like, and that apparently sounds nice.

Yeah the white line ARB is raved about on here, havent yet got one myself, dont think ill bother unless i track the car. Eibach sportlines are a good upgrade too.

thanks mate :). Does anyone know if i have to buy a scorpion decat to fit my rs192 cat back exhaust? or do all decats fit each make of exhaust..

ive looked about and the only diference ive seen (so i think anyway :) ) is that some have a sleeve and some have a flange for a clamp?

If I was you Id collect all the mods that compliment uprated camshafts, e.g v6 air box, better filter, matched inlets, decat then when its cambelt time get cams and a remap. Thats my 2pence.

^keep your 2 pence ;) Stock airbox is fine, as is stock panel filter, as is stock CAT

unless you want to spend thousands the "little bits" are pretty pointless, Thats my £3.56

i like the idea of a decat to get a wee bit more noise and a few bangs out of my scorpion exhaust :) im a bit of a dick that way haha.

Ive been reading a few posts on here about peoples cars not getting good bhp results due to s**t cam timing? is this something that happens at the cambelt change or just over time from use?

Happens with incorrect procedure or the incorrect locking tools have been used during the cambelt change. Read the thread about local garages in the engine section.

i have had a wee skim through that thread..will go have another look.

how hard is it to adjust the timing on these engines?

Personally with your current mods I'd be thinking along the lines of a de-cat, cams and a custom map to compliment the whole lot.

My Cambelt was changed last year but that's not stopping me planning cams in the near future.

My car is currently stripped out, working on power to weight ratio I should have roughly the same figures as Sams@Btm's trophy, which pulls very quickly and suprises many things.

As you can never be too sure whether the timing is right on your car its always worth getting it checked, Fred@Btm is the chap to deal with, so get some of his cams put in there at the same time, for the sake of a £1000 its not much on these cars for the gains

im a long way away from any specialist though.. would cost me the same on fuel as it would for the parts!haha.. payday in a few days so i can start having a look for some bits and bobs :)

TO get decent gains is going to lead to a big bill, whichever way you slice it I'm afriad Chris.

Cams, ITB's or boost of one flavour or another are the only ways forward, none of which I'd consider to be cheap. Of course, doing cams and remap at cambelt time would be a decent step.

im not wanting to go as far as itb or boost.. its allot of money at the moment lol. im just looking to get the best gains out of the engine at the moment without heading into itb or boost territory :)

Any small mod you do wont make much difference when your driving it apart from a map.

Even then at 200-300 quid for an extra few hp's, is it REALLY worth it?
