what should i do to add power to my MK1

Should I install NOS, Turbo Kit or Supercharge? Which one makes more sense so that the engine can last longer?

what exactly do you want?

all 3 will increase power as would not reverting to any form of forced induction (NOS comes under forced induction).

Turbo is expensive, but Id go for that one!

Id imagine NOS is the cheapest by quite a way.

Go for 70bhp nitrous jets installed professsionaly. Will probably cost you about £600-700. You will prob only get about 50bhp from it but thats a good increase.

The good thing about nitrous is that you can run the car as standard whenever you want (with nitrous swithched off)

I was considering this too but am worried about the insurance/legal/safety side of things. i could only put the cylinder in my boot & if i got into a bad accident the NOS would certainly help to burn everything to a crisp!! then police find out, then insurance ont cover you for road use etc.....

Love the idea though!!

Well NOS is the best way for instant power and it is safe.

Ther problem is most idiots dont set it up right and blow their engines. When set up properly the power increase is there from idle to redline.

Drawbacks are, its not cheap, you need the bottle temp stabiliser (if you want to keep your engine healthy get it) and you need to fill a bottle up every now and then.

benifits, instant and welcome (usually) power increase, can be swapped car to car, doesnt require any semi major fabrication work.

Turbo, I like turbos, I like them a lot, however there are drawbacks, lag, boost control, manifolds, intercooling.

Blowers, no lag, run low boost so usually no intercooling needed, recent advances have alklowed better rotor sealing so less losses. Behaves just liek a naturally aspirated engine. Of course this is assuming your not running a centrifugal blower.

But you can also get power by tinkering with whats there, head work for example, a decent exhaust manifold (and I am not reffering to the joke that is powerflow), new cams etc.

Most cars dont make standard power as well, this can be down to many things. On the 172s I believe theres a problem with the VVT phase switch, may be wrong though that may be holding back power.

if i get NOS for my car, and if i get into an accident..will the car blow up and catch fire because of the NOS?

no the car will not blow up, ignore the fast and the furious. The bottle has a safety valve which ruptures when the pressure gets to high due to temps, this vents out the NOS. At best you will get a wee flame from the bottle. And even then this is very doubtfull. Its a damn sight less dangerous than a nearly empty fuel tank.

You dont need to strengthen the engine etc if its set up properly. Unless of course you want it to push out 500bhp or something daft. A 40% power increase will not cause any damage at all. This is actual increase not a guestimate with a 100bhp jet for example.
