Well I dunno.

My last car, a MK2 172 stopped at 64

This one 70 ish (MK1)

May be due to sight differenced in the rolling circumference of the wheel

OR

The mk1 is the best in the whole wide world

I remember hiting the limiter for the first time.. right in the middle of an overtaking manoveure - i thought the engine had died and so filled me undies.

I was new to the car at the time and just wanted to hear that engine note go on and on and on....

(same as David), hence why the 1.6 doesnt sound as quick on paper as it is.
