What the hell are spacers!?

Hi,

Ive searched and cant find much info, what are spacers!?

Do they push the wheel outwards?And does this look good?

They sit between the hub and the wheel making the wheel sit further out.

They can look good yes depending on size, but also wear out components such as bearings more quickly.

They also risk ruining the handling, especially on bumpy roads, as you are changing the steering geometry just like if you fit the wrong offset wheels.
