What to do....

So im looking to upgrade from the Clio soon, not sure what to yet, although i want an EVO 8 MR.

Decision is, do i break the clio, or try and return it back to standard and just sell the mods.

It currently has holes through the floor for the battery, bits cut off in the back where the seats mounted to, so IMO would be a pain to return back to standard.

Would still fetch good money breaking it.

Just after some ideas, and probably just some justification in doing it.

Thanks :)

I'd break it. You've got a lot of desirable mods on it which should sell easily. ITB's shouldnt be hard to shift.

Get it shifted while you can, not sure if you've ever been in an Evo but they are absolutely awesome machines.

i haven't looked though your build thread too "in depth" but how far off is it from getting logbooked?

as soon as their up too a standard thats motorsport approved, the prices shot up, a mates c2 gt, before logbook with 25k+ bits n bobs would've sold for 15000, but after they go for 30 plus

Might be worth giving Laxy a PM. I think he sold his build (albeit incomplete) as an almost whole! Not sure what for but I think it was fair.

and what state is it in currently anyway? lol. that sounds like a bargain!

Ever tried breaking a car? Ever had to answer the endless questions from people asking if they can have "only half of something" as "I don't need the other side/part/half/colour"

I'd be looking to shift the car as a whole, rather than end up with a bare clio shell and a box full of speaker grills and window seals.

Broke my last car. Aware of the cons, but pros are it will return more money.

Depends on interest I suppose

Oh... That showed me :dapprove:

In the end it boils down to whether you can be arsed really.

I know I wouldn't be bothered, but then I also know that my car would never sell for £2k as a complete car.

Not been much of a problem for me..

Just got back from the ring, still got a really unusual noise from the engine bay, even after having a new dephaser etc.

It burnt about 2.5litres of oil during the trip, which doesnt seem normal to me?

Although it still runs and drives ok, i think its lost power in 5th gear, just doesnt pull the same, and smells of oil when driven hard.

Think its time to change.....

I am sure it was fine up to about 5 months ago when lifters (!?) started failing / drinking oil etc - what happened at that point to cause all of the problems?

Out of interest have you got any independent RR data on the car?

Was your last car a clio?

I broke a 172 and the amount of complete f**king idiots on this forum were enough to stop me doing it again.

Very hard pickle imo.

Id look at it like this...

PROS
More money in return splitting the parts
Should be 'easier' to sell individual components
Car should be more marketable to a wider audience if left standard

CONS
Time to return to standard
Dealing with 15-20 different people and messers who will Pm/ Email/ Phone
Hassle of amending parts of car which have damage/ wear from the modifications carried out
Postage costs or organisation of couriers to send parts
Possible losses in post
Paypal fees
Getting original parts if youv already sold the existing kit on

If it was me and I had a garage and didnt need the car everyday (sure you have a Punto JTD?) i would split. There is loads of hassle, but cant help but thinking that financially it will be more rewarding and should in theory make it easier to sell a more standard car.

The obvious thing is to put the car on Pheads etc as it sits at present and ask for a modest addition over the cost of a 'standard' car. Where this will backfire is that not everyone will 'value' the mods correctly and you may be appealing to a lesser audience. I would also say that right now the market is pretty slow, with the lack of spending being reported and the fact that 182s are going for poor money on rubbish like the bay peoples perceptions on the value of 172s is also dwindling. (iirc yours is a 52 reg?). It will all boil down to how interested someone is on taking the car on knowing its cost a premium over a standard 172, but is a worthwhile choice as that buyer wanted an ITB'd clio.

Sure sean on here sold his but did lose on it a little. Usual for modifications, never get your money back! Im still in 100% standard as much as possible as then you can also consider the P/ex at a dealer option, if of course your buying your evo from a stealership.

Never mind the fact that it obviously is not happy mechanically, possibly with some fairly serious issues judging by the symptoms.

Tough one, looks like breaking is the best bet or try and flog it to some chavy idoit via PH
No way of keeping it as a weekend/track toy as your upgrading to quite a pricey car anyway ben?

P.S. Tom can i have a JMS sticker for my airbox please
