WHAT TYRES TO GET

I need some new tyres and am currently thinking about changing all four corners from the conti sports. But what tyres should I go for. I do about 16-17000 miles a year so want somthing that lasts but I also want good road holding.

Correct, for the mk2 172 it is 195/45/16 and make sure you get a speed rated tyre higher than you will ever do in you clio .. 149mph would be about right ;)

Ive got P-zeros all round and they are the dogs nads!!! although i have been told that goddyear eagle f1s are supposed to be better....

Tom what does the 205 bit mean - not clued up on this
205 is the width of the tyre in mm so

195 / 45 / 16 = with in mm / height in mm / size in inches

Pirellis are an excellent tyre but they are very soft so they wont wear as well as something like a Michelin Contact Sport which is a very hard wearing tyre!

Depends whether you want to go for out and out grip or out and out durability or a bit if both!!

For grip then you cant fault the Pirelli P-Zero they won the autocar tyre test last week. If you want durability then it has to be the Michelin as they last for ages and still grip pretty well too! If you want a total overall tyre good wear, good grip, good in wet then it has to be the Eagle F1.

There are other such as the Toyo which will grip well in both wet and dry but wont wear particularly well but is very cheap!

The rossos have been recently rated as the best, theres also the Pirelli P7, also very good (but not as good as the rossos) for a helluva lot less.

Pick up the latest Autocar.

Toyos in the wet
are toyos crap in the wet ? cause if they are i will get f1s

I personally have not tried the toyos in either wet or dry, what about yokohamas

Toyos are worse in the wet than the F1s but then the F1 is pretty much the best wet weather tyre!

The Toyos are good considering the price, they are considered by many as a budget tyre though many will disagree based on their above average performance in both wet and dry.

I guess the all time big question is .. are they better than the standard contis ???

Yes IMO the Toyos are better than the Contis! I have recently had the experience of Contis, Toyos and Eagle F1. The Toyos are better than the Contis in terms of grip but they dont wear as well! The F1s are better than both and they wear slightly better than the Contis.

Bear in mind that the Toyos are about half the price of the F1s, £41 from mytyre.net 195/45 R16 and the F1s are about £80 odd

Bridgestones arte the best tyre though... I dont care about toyos of goodyears just read a review and get some BS RE720s

Also to add the Pirelli Rossos arent made for anything below 17inch

Right I am probabley going to get burned for this but I ended up going for some --------

Uniroyal RainSport 1 195/45 R16 80V FR (So) @ £46.50 per corner.

According to the review on mytyre.net on a scale of 1-6 (1 being the best) they rated for grip as 1.3 in the dry and 1.1 in the wet. over all 1.7.

It wasnt the tyres i wanted but money is tight - house mods and sh1t.

I will Have to let you know how i get on with them.

Please dont burn me too bad - thanks for your help anyway.
