What would cause a 1*2 to be down on power?

I am wondering if my car is down on power because other 172/182's are quoting top speeds of 140 mph.

My car is standard and at around 120mph there doesn't seem to be much more there. I have however had to back off the gas purely because of running out of road.

Should 120mph to 140mph be fairly quick in getting there or does it build up slower - in otherwords if i kept my foot down would it get there in the end?

It was serviced 4000 miles ago according to the service booklet.

Like everyone has already said up to 120mph they're pretty quick after that and they seem to hit a wall (not literally obviously).

Whips upto 100 then gets to 120 easily and struggles to 140-145

mines fairly nippy to 120 and seems to get to 140 not too badly tbh

I find is steadily quick upto 110 then feels sluggish to go any faster. Don't feel 100% confident with it at that speed like I did in my 1.4 tbh.

Seems quick at lower speeds though which is fine tbh, Jamesstone said it felt one of the quicker ones and that was with a passenger in the back too. Hopefully its just how they are and I was expecting too much.

i was pleased with my 182 upto 140, not rapid but for the power they have there not bad. iv had it over 140 but i think the speedos read over so probly doesnt do more than 140?

Have wound mine upto 120 and that was quick enough i think the issue is that they has relatively short gearing and well they are not the most slippery of shapes although there are worse cars out there, but as has been said it's not what they are built for

I often think they are geared almost for track racing, the 172 cup especially.

i think its got summit to do wi the gear ratio aswell. When sitting at about 75-80, its doing 4000rpm or there about. Just feels like its too high revs for that speed. mind u, i have just come out of a 6 speed GtTdi golf 130. Which never went over 2500 rpm so might just be me lol!!

I have had 140 on private run way with 3 people in so yours should definately get there
