what would happen if.......

  850 T5. mmmm Turbo!

so i have a crappy looking clio, im wondering what would happen if i just stuck some better alloys on it? not more 15s and ive been told 16s are oddball.

so 17s. i always say if ur gonna do something dont do it by halves, so realistically, if i stick 17s on my clio will it look cool or look like i jacked it up, and then id have to go and spend more on lowering ect etc.

also im looking for original look alloys maybe er....um.... yeh u guessed it 17s

i hate chrome and multispokes. maybe some dark alloys??? anyone know any decent companies??

(sorry if this is old ground for people)

I think the Dynamique alloys (be they Ph2 or Ph3) look pretty decent. Id just recommend some lowering springs as theyre cheaper than new wheels and improve the look to a higher degree, while also actually also improving the handling somewhat. Ive driven a Ph2 1.4 Dynamique with lowering springs fitted and was impressed.

If you really are convinced that wheels are the only option, Id suggest some Renault ones to keep that original look. There are very few aftermarket wheels that "suit" cars as well as the manufacturer/designers original choices - and they tend to age badly IMO. I speak as a convert!

Lower it before you get wheels. Stick with OZ or Speedlines IMO, Super Legs, F1 Cups or Turinis will do. Or as Ben has mentioned, Mk2 172 wheels would look good.

yeh, i just dont wanna look like a normal clio no more, and no offence to the guys who suggested using 172 wheels, but i dont really wanna try and make my car look like a 172, if its only a 1.4.

arent the old 172 wheels now standard on the upper end of new small engined clios?

lowering eh....!

Lower it as far as you can on coilover.
The stock alloys look quite nice IMO plus insurance companies dont charge you extra.
The 172 cup ones do look good though but anthing more tha 16 is more show than go usually IMO.

Just buy MikeCs wheels off him - they look great imo! :D

Ive got some piccies of 17"s on my previous Punto GTt. It had standard suspension too, so it may give you a better idea of how your Clio will look, like for like before you lower it? Ill dig them out tomorrow. They were Momo Evo Racer 2s and had a gloss black centre with chrome rim.

Be warned, 17s will seriously sap your acceleration. Motorway cruising will be a lot more smoother though.

cheers pal.

i dont think acceleration can suffer in a 1.4 lol

and yes 16s are considered an odd size, but only because no1 buys them because they are pretty expensive, due to no1 buying them lol
