whats the safest way to lift a car onto the axle stands

ive always put it on ramps but i dont really like where im jacking it from,
i was wondering if people get it up from ground level and where do they position the jack

on a clios the jacking point is on the sil where the 2 holes are just use a jack and a pice of wood
