Whats this?

Was under the car tonight checking something to do with the exhaust and came across this? anyone know what it is? the emissions light was on from friday-sunday and then went off and this is just inbetween the cat/mid pipe. Anyone have any idea on what this is and if its a bad thing? Im not mechanically minded and dont have a clue what it is

Well anyway it looks like it was welded and then covered with underseal.

its wet, some sort of liquid :/ its at the other side of the heat shield aswell and its got a big black line across the heat shield aswell. not sure on what it is at all

was the 2 pipes joined up nice and tight, Did you have a blow out? possible it came loose and exhaust fumes where spreading outwards which cause this black suit? like if you have a blowout on the exhaust you can tell by looking because exhaust gases will be escaping and build up a wet black suit, I cant think what else it could be atol.

Replace the cat to manifold fitting kit. Circa £25 from renault and use genuine only .

Looking at those pictures i would say you have an oil leak and its blowing along the underside of the car between the heatshield and body.

Check the underside of the engine block for oil.

ah damn just what i need :/ Ive forked out loads on this car at the moment and it keeps coming up with more problems, they never end haha. ive got a fresh bottle of castrol 4L oil at home as was gonna do a oil change on the clio sometime soon anyways along with new spark plugs, oil filter and air filter. may have to try find out if there is an oil leak this saturday when i get my back box put on and see where the leak is coming from!
