Sweet baby Jesus, are MS gluttons for punishment, they have a box of a certain size that is guranteed to overheat and die. Making it smaller is even to me not the best idea! Surely this is a windup??

By the look of it they've completly re-designed the motherboard and combined the GPU/CPU. The GPU is where a lot of the RROD problems come from. Maybe that'll fix the issues with overheating.

I doubt it TBH. A single chipset doing twice the amount of work in a smaller enviroment, I'd expect it to get much hotter. The fan looks like a decent size though and wasn't the RROD problem mostly due to them not using solder capable of withstanding the temperature being generated and turning molten, breaking the connection?
Agree, new gen of consoles = the same games with updated graphics. I like the longer time scales we've settled into, means we get a bit more creativity coming through as the consoles become established.

Pretty much. Mostly down to leadfree solder. Can't be helped really since ita illegal for lead solder to be used.
In 2003 I was working for raymarine and our prototype units were failing at an alarming rate due to it. You'd have thought it would be all lovely and sorted by now.
