When to change belts

Could somebody help please not long had the car and a friend has told me something about a dephaser and that it is important to change it along with the cambelt. My question is at what mileage should i change it all??? car is close to 67k.

They should have been done long ago!

Hello,

The cambelt should be done every 5 years or 72k miles, WHICHEVER IS SOONER.

So your cambelt change is well overdue if it's not been done.

Some change the dephaser, some don't. Get the car to a specialist, they will tell you if it's needed or not.

Also the auxiliary belt should be changed every 3 years / 36k, again whichever comes around soonest.

^debatable, I say they'e good for longer, IMO do the lot every 4 to 4.5 years

For the auxiliary? Odd. Everywhere I've looked including Renault / Renault independent specialists list 36k / 3 years, so perhaps it was revised?

Have a look at that thread. Seams no ones knows for sure.

I think it's just cos most people do 36k in 3 years.

12k/12 months go hand in hand. anywhere saying 5 years will be a misprint. If someone is unsure when it's been done, I just look for cracking of the rubber
