when would you get rid?

  Burgandy 174 sport t
At what miles would you say a car becomes un desirable, basically before it becomes hard to sell?

So at what miles would u get rid? to make sure u still could.

the last 3 cars i had were sold b4 they had 30k miles on the clock , but it does depend on the car i suppose ....... the cup is staying for a bit longer now

i would say it all depends on the type of car, i always like to go for cars that have 60k and less, so i would generally sell before then, or until i get bored, which usually comes first :)

i sold my cat c golf with 200,000 miles with ease, im sure you will have no problem selling yours, just be realistic on price

My passat has 160K never misses a beat. Not worth much to anyone else, a grand if that but its the most reliable car I have ever had, I will still have it when the clio dies a death I reckon!!!

I have sold all my cars with various miles on them. My 1998 corsa was 64K and it flew out of the door.

if ure thinkin hard to sell think cambelt service IMO.

A 30k car has a fair bit to go before cambelt so thats a good time. And anytime after the cambelt service is excellent too.

People arnt worried about the miles really its more to do with when the most expensive service is due IMO.

I thought 50k was a good balance and tbh, at that point my 172 was giving me all the signals that it was time to be rid. lol. Shame i chose a s**t motor to replace it with.

No point worrying about milage....I don't think there would be much difference between a 50k car and a 70/80k one....we're talking French stuff here.

BUY nearly new with 5 - 20K on clock (50%-60% of new price)

SELL 4-5 years with 60-80K (third of new price)

that way you get the best out of a car with minimal depreciation, only one or two cheap mots, one set of tyres and pads, but no shocks, clutch, discs (if lucky), exhausts etc.

e.g.

1) Xsara HDi 12K list, £5900 @ auction 18 months old with 10K, run 3 years & 40K, sold for £4500, virtually no depreciation, no problems, no expense bar a handful of basic services & 2 tyres

2) Reno 19 RSi Turbo D, 12K list, £5900 2 years old with 19K, run for 70K/5 years with no major expense, sold for £1500. that's only 4400 loss in 5 years!

BOTH 'kin cheap motoring!

I bought passat 3 years ago with 142k on clock, I have bought pads and tyres for it and 2 bottom suspension arms, the arms are a notorius weak point on these cars. It was an ex fleet car with full history. It didn't cost much to buy, not worth much if I sell. However It would cost me a fortune to buy something of same spec nearly new.

I would just get rid once I get bored, which would be well before it got to a really high mileage probably! I sold my last car on about 50k i think.

Sold Corsa Sri on 10k as I hated it
