Where do I start..

Right well i'm looking into getting my hands on a completely standard unabused phase 1 172 the minute my saxo sells and i've a few questions to ask...

What are they like for everyday driving? And to live with? I drive through town at rush hour traffic twice every day so petrol would be a big factor, although i am driving a decatted saxo vts:eek:
Someone was saying they are expensive to get replacement parts for if anything goes wrong with them, how true is this claim? Obviously its the same for any car if you were to go through a dealership for parts.

My mind has gone blank for now, but i look forward to hearing any opinions/pointers and will post up any other questions as they come into my head.

cheers

is it the sort of car you would be able to tip away at yourself if you had a bit of common sense?

Like i generally do all the engine oil, gearbox oil, oil filter, fuel filter and air filter changes myself to cut down on costs a little, are these easily done on a clio?

Also, are they easy enough to run on a student budget?:p

Can be hard on fuel if you drive it hard, but shouldn't be anything to write home about if you drive it normally..

plenty of pull down the lower end of the rev range and probably quite a big step up size-wise from the saxo.

Not had any problems with mine other than needing to replace brakes and er.. and engine when I first got it, but let's not mention that ;D

yeah well size was another factor that drew me to the clio (as i REALLY dont want to be a civic type r driver:p). the saxo is a little small, especially due to the fact that i enjoy getting all my mates in the car and going on a random road trips to the far side of the country. hasn't happened since i got the vts

i had a vts previously. the clio is a better car imo. just feels better built. i find i havent got to drive it as hard as the saxo to get the power out of it either, handling took a little bit of getting used to but it rides better. and i find i get better mpg than i did from the vts..

Ive been doing 40 mile per day round trips to work up until last week and fuel wise I managed about 40 mpg on motorway to work....its not too bad! Parts are reasonable imo...could be cheaper LOL! As any car though, if you know where to get parts and have people that can fit them its as cheap as chips! Lol :D (get one..they're mint! Love the ph1's too :D)

I owned a VTS before i got my ph1 172 and fuel consumption isnt far away mate, I find i get between 33-39 mpg thats a whole mixture of driving, for what it is its really not that bad atall!

I loved the saxo but it was just too unreliable, the 172 isnt any Honda but it feels like a vts with a turbocharger!

The VTS may only be a 1600cc but remember it weighs 935kg. There seriously quick, Citroen stated that it does 0-60 in 7.4, not a car to be sniffed at to be perfectly honest mate!

Soon s it revvs to 4k it goes like a scalded cat! Given my 172 is faster its not a million miles away!

I do alright on the old petrol gauge myself..
I just stick a tenner in every 3 or 4 days

I guess it all depends on how you drive it.
If you give it some then expect the petrol to just flow out...

onto parts from renault themselves there expensive.
But theres tons of other places to get parts from and there on a chepo one
so it dont break my giro at all

Ashes wolves is a good place for renault parts etc..
